I just got up to half way through "Anal Show 2" and I just realized something. Many of today's directors just don't seem to have the flair for directing and capturing women in all their beauty and femininity. What I love about John's style, is his very slow directing technique. At least 15 minutes of gentle foreplay, ass teasing, tit fondling, chatting, etc.
This art has sadly been lost over the years. The phenomenal scene with Christoph Clark, Laura Angel and Monica Sweetheart wasn't excellent purely for it's hot sex. Laura and Monica were genuinely getting turned on, laughing, smiling, teasing, all sorts of positive human qualities, which just makes the sex even better.
I've just stopped halfway through the scene with Christy/Judith, the beauty from Stagliano's masterpiece, "Buda" I have to say, she may have the finest ass this side of heaven. Un-be-liev-able, that's all I can say. I haven't been turned on by a title this much in quite awhile (probably since Jules Jordan's "Ass Worship 4")
Who would agree with me that John is their favourite director of all time? I think he may well be mine. John, hope you check out ADT from time to time. You're stuff is just superb, my man! :)
What a strange coincidence! I was just about to post a question reccomending directors who shoot for beauty of the female form rather than strictly raunch.
The last movie I watched that had this was JH darkside
Watch the camera follow Jenna in the shoe store, porno shops and limo.
What are some other films that are gonzo, but flattering to the womens beauty
The other thing that bothers me, is that the woman can't enjoy it. Look at angel dark in Just fuckin. The smiling, the way she moves her eyes. Those intangible things make a difference

I agree, Buttman is the king of tease. Not even Jules Jordan can touch him.....hell nah, not even close.
Buttman focuses mostly on the tease, and in my opinion this is the most important part of a sex scene. Check out Buttman's Brazilian Ass Fetish. Although there are some unneccessary stupid editing effects on the teases, the rest of it is classic Buttman.
He makes us get to know the girl during the tease while showing off her body (ASS mostly), which makes him standout among the rest. This is why he is my favorite directore
The thing with me is; and again I use JH: Darkside since that was the last thing I have seen; it is not just showing her body. I enjoyed the teases and feel of that movie more than the sex.
Following the person around. Capturing the way they move. Attention to costumage and lingerie. The surroundings.(That church is darkside with the redlight!) All these things matter.
It is probably due to the fact that so much porn is churned out. Can you imagine if Stanely Kubrick directed 12 films a year?
I haven't watched a ton of Stagliano stuff. Alot of it looks dated to me. Maybe you could recommend some stuff with thin girls and not so anal-heavy.
Stagliano is known as "Buttman". He favors big butts. Fortunately, he don't do thin girls. Unless you consider Brandy, Cassidy, Jasper, Shanna, Katja, et al, thin.
Joey Silvera is my favorite director of all time. I like the quirkiness and unpredictability of his movies. Think he'll go one way, he might just go the other. Plus he is the only director I can think of to shoot many different genres of porn and do it well.
More balanced.
Buttman is good, but at the risk of offending many of his followers, I find his movies to be a bore. He is good, but... well, whatever.

I like Joey and John equally well for the same reason. They are GOOD camera men. If the people having sex are into each other you don't need a director just a good camera man to grab it. If the people having sex have to act like they like each other, no director can make it into a scene with heat. I think what makes them good directors is they pick the people to do the scene knowing the heat will be there. Now I'm just an armchair observer here, but that's what it looks like to me.
I'd agree. When John is at his best you can forget your watchign something that has been "produced". More like your just witnessing some really hot sex.
I dunno, tbo. I don't think his stuff is dated at all, unless you count alot of the girls, who obviously don't do anywhere near as much porn now as they did back then. Other than that, John's scenes are just as good (probably better) than Jules' or Joey's. Just my opinion.
Joey is a very good director but the problem I find with him is, imo, his lack of balance. For example, one scene may be red hot and then the next one is just plain dull. Plus, alot of his girls are fairly thin and alot of the time not great looking. I've got two "Service Animals" and yeah, they are very good when you watch them first time but after awhile, they become tedious.
I don't find this with John's stuff. I can watch it again and again.

Because John doesn't shoot many movies anymore, you probably are seeing stuff that is dated. Take a peek at the date of production on the box (not the copyright date - the actual date of production).
He does indeed shot lots and lots of anal. It's what he likes to see at least by the end of a scene. I would highly recommend Buttman's Bend Over Brazilian Babes 4. The girls are relatively thin for a Buttman movie, and even though it does have a lot of anal, it focuses every bit as much on the girl's bodies and personalities.
As I was just watching Buttman's Big Tit Adventure 5, I was thinking the same thing. There is no other director who is even close to Stagliano. I love all his movies, especially when he's in Europe or Brazil. A.) He actually has brains and asks the girls more than the usual questions. B.) His setups are the best. I love when he walks on the streets of a city and finds a girl. Even though its all setup, it really creates a much better feel than the usual start on the couch scene. C.) I love how he worships the girl and lets her take off her clothes piece by piece. I hate to see pretty girls wasted by two guys jumping on her before she even takes her panties off. To me, its much hotter when its setup properly. Most girls never look better than they do when he's the director.
Does he make movies any more? Does his health issues keep him from being an active director or did he just get tired of it? Christophe Clarke is probably the closest to him today, but there's only one Stagliano. John Leslie is good too, but sometimes he gets too carried away with lighting coming from windows which puts the girls in the dark. Sifreddi's gets great looking woman doing nasty things, but he doesn't worship woman the same way.
Here's how almost every other gonzo movie made these days goes. Girl says her name and age and country, sits on a couch and masturbates for 2 minutes, 2 naked guys come in do the usual positions. Todays directors need to take a lesson from the master.

Yup. Since the mid-90s, he hasn't made movies at nearly the same pace as most other porn directors, which is possibly an explanation for why he still enjoys it so much.
He's been spending most of his time producing a Vegas show based on the Fashionistas movie. The show has been open for over 18 months now, and it still requires lots of attention.
The majority of the last 6 months has been spent on pre-production and production of Fashionistas 2.
Mostly though, running Evil Angel takes a lot of time, so he just doesn't have the luxury of spending as much time on his own movies as paying attention to everyone else's.
JS rocked my world and singlehandedly made me the porn freak I am today, though I am less so than ever ... nothing was ever or ever will be as good as experiencing those classic flicks from the early '90s. Outside of some 70s/80s classics, that will always define porn to me. Nothing today compares besides Rocco and Joey's stuff. I'm dead serious. Second prize to Patrick Collins for early Sodomania and Greg Dark/John Leslie.
Though there's lot of folks that I still LIKE ... it's just a diminished chord.
And I am too jaded, generally.
Same goes for music. There's just something about getting hit at the right time by the right thing that really makes an impression. John is the guy who did that for me with porn. Joey keeps that flame burning. Sometimes some other directors can do that, too.
I dunno, though ... after porn ... gourmet cooking, single malts ... ??
I don't know how many of you have seen "Face Dance Obsession" but I'd just like to know which girl in the film is Lea de Mae? Is she the hot blonde in the scene with the other girl (I think her name is Daniella Rush?) Also, who is the main girl of the film (the one who sits on Nacho Vidal's face in the last scene)? Is that Monika Sweetheart or someone else?
Ignoring trolls and getting back on-topic: personally I think Face Dance showed the ultimate greatness of John Stagliano. I remember seeing it back in 1992 and the mix between feature and gonzo was really mind blowing. In my opinion Face Dance is the best porn movie ever made, even after 14 years. The cast had all the perfect girls in those days.
I find that hard to dispute. Leslie's edgier features cut it close. And "Fashionistas."

Leslie was starting to become a favorite of mine until I saw Naomi There is Only One. That Fresh Meat 21 with Sunny Lane coming soon looks good though.
The only movie of John's I've seen is "The Fashionistas", but that's enough to make him one of my favorite directors. He showed the potential that porn has, and I'm sure that he'll continue to do that with the sequel.
I loved the first two "Face Dance" movies if for no other reason than I was stupified by the magnificent ass and legs of Angel Ash . Both in the scene with Rocco in the blue Corvette, and later in the orgy. I don't even own these movies, and it's probably been ten years since I've seen them, and I can still see her in those white pumps and that little white half-top, with that magnificent body, as sure as if she was standing here. I loved her, and just knew that she was gonna be the subject of my masturbatory dreams for years to come. But alas, My Little Angel sorta faded away after that. She only made a couple of more movies and then drifted out of porn. Those flicks also introduced me to the little redheaded firecracker, Brittney O'Connell , and that worked out well for me. Lot of genetic material released to Brittney's efforts.
In truth though, Stagliano got into my will even before that. "Buttman's Ultimate Workout" , the illegal one with Talia James and the underaged Alexandria Quinn , is the porn movie that forever changed my life. This was a new way of doing porn that I'd never seen before. And he was a glorious, unabashed "ass" man, much like myself. Stagliano went into the Porn Hall Of Fame right then and there as far as I was concerned.
John (Buttman) was my first porn discovery. It was one of his flicks that I rented that, for the first time, really, made me wish that I'd bought it rather than just rented it.
I don't want to say that other directors just don't care about anything but the money because, obviously, there are less controversial and easier ways to make a lot of money. What I will say is that it's my belief that making good porn is a lot harder than you'd think. I believe that making excellent porn is something that very few people really have the talent for. I don't think it's simply a matter of just wanting to do it, having a passion for it or knowing what you're doing. I think a really good porn director (Like John) has to have a vision - a good, solid idea of what he wants his work to be when it's done. And also, he or she has to know how to make the TV disappear. The viewer doesn't want to feel like he's watching sex between two strangers on his TV. He wants to feel like it's really happening right in front of him. Video has some fundamental limitations and a good director has to know how to get around those.
Anyway...John has all those talents and more....in spades. He knows exactly what the viewer wants to see, how it should look, sound and how a typical porn viewer sees the world around him. It's really hard to miss his titles if you love ass and walk into a porn store. It was, I think, 94 when I first discovered him. At the time, his box covers weren't all that elaborate but they convinced me to check it out and I was hooked right then and there. He's definitely the king as far as I'm concerned.
The one thing that John (Buttman) has been able to do, leaps and bounds over all others, is to put his love into his work. Not just love of the ass, well precisely love of the ass in his films. You see it when he’s carrying around the camera and being geniunely smitten with a girl who has hip hugging and skin tight shorts or pants on. Now if others were able to duplicate that fame it would be everywhere and he wouldn’t be who he is. If I could get my love of breasts like that on film I would open up a whole new marke [:p)] Even if that happpened he still would have done it first and in this case best
Like BSD said, I was talking about Face Dance (1&2 as one piece). The movie grabs you by the balls the minute it starts with a kick ass orgy the minute Dario arrives in the US. One of the best orgy scene ever shot. I just wish Stagliano would have given Tiffany Mynx a bigger role, like her own scene.
Btw, I still have hope to see three other great Stagliano masterpieces on DVD: Salsa Break, The Legend of Reggie D and Bare Essence. I saw those a long long time ago on VHS.
Another thing I love about John's films is the fact that he doesn't need to say things like "ohhh...you dirty little whore" or "you slut, suck those balls" etc. All you get from John is "oh my God, what an ass!", "that's beautiful" etc.
I personally prefer that and it shows that a true porn director AND true lover of women, who admires them and respects them, doesn't need to say these things to get an atmosphere going.
I just had a sneek preview of my most recent film "Big Booty Revenge" by Justin Slayer yesterday. This is what I thought: yes, great girls, fine asses, plenty of wild sex, etc but there seemed to be just SOMETHING missing. Something that was present in "Anal Show 2" Ok, BBR has more girls, probably a few more sex acts but quantity is not always the best solution.
I dunno whether it was just because I wasn't in the mood or whether it was because I genuinely felt more aroused by AS2....
I could've sworn that I bugged Mrs. S about those awhile back and she said they may be on the horizon for future releases. What I'd really love is a special on Face Dance 1&2, but really I should shut-up and buy them now since I haven't seen them yet. Fred bad
The intro to the scene with Sandra, Magda and Steve Holmes in Anal Show #4 is classic Buttman. When i first got that dvd i watch just that part over and over. I love it.
This may sound funny but i does anyone else like the little tourist-y bits in Buttman movies. I'm think of the scene above in Berlin especially. And also in Montreal where he's in the park, on St Catherines St and going to Beaver Hall. He does it in Brazil, Budapest and Prague (Face Dance Obsession). It's a nice, quirky little touch.
Yes, I love when he walks around the European cities or beaches of Brazil. I hate when production companies fly all the way over to Prague and then don't shoot outside the apartment. Buttman is like Rick Steves mixed in with the porn. I like that not only does he go out on the streets, but that he knows enough about history than he can say something intelligent about wherever he's at. I've never seen any other gonzo director have anything to say beyond the sex. Having been to most of those cities, its really cool to see him walking around them.

Stagliano & Bruce Seven are the true legends in this biz.
Stagliano for his strick adoration of the female ass, Seven (w/Bianca) for breaking down barriers with his Buttslammers & Takin' it to the Limit series.
In 1986 Mr. Seven directed and produced Club Ginger. There's a scene with Ginger Lynn, Sharon Mitchell & Tom Byron that featured Byron taking some anal-beads and fucking Ginger in the ass. At the time, this blew my mind. It would be considered tame by today's standards, but was ahead of it's time back then. This scene was probably the one that sent me over the edge.
Becoming anal-friendly after this led me to Stagliano's stuff.
I also need to give credit to early movies by Patrick Collins, Joey Silvera, John Leslie & Gregory Dark.
I really miss Bruce, Thank God John is still with us!
Yeah when he was Roscoe Bowltree and riding on Stagliano's coattail. After he went independent it went downhill pretty fast. I remember the first independent Elegant Angel movies were not that bad like the first Takin' it to the Limit and Sodomania volumes and Fazano's Student Bodies but then they took a whole different turn.
I like his style-sometimes I wish they'd embargo his wide angle lenses and make him shoot with a normal perspective, but overall quite creative and good camera work.
