I would think that multiple back-ups would be of the highest priority. Hard drives crash all the time. That's why I prefer to shoot on tape as opposed to flash cards or hard drives. It's just more stable that way. Once you back up the footage onto the drive you can burn dvd's with it and so forth. It prevents these kind of problems 99% of the time. Maybe he's already doing that and it's a more complicated deal; but if not, it would be a good idea to start. [Link]
