I so hope this is true. I think I've only seen her in one scene (Feeding Frenzy), but I remember having enjoyed it a lot, and she's such a cutie. At Wikipedia, there's nothing mentioned (anymore?) about her having passed away, so I really hope she's alive and well. I wish her all the luck and happiness in the world.
Forget it. But I still expect to see an obit in AVN or a Quebec newspaper before it is absolutely confirmed. Edited by - Gentleman Jon on 7/18/2010 9:39:26 PM
There has been absolutly no obituary in papers in the Montreal area. As one mentioned before, a Facebook page was created for her and has been regularly updated with messages from friends and relatives, even Judy's father. If it's a hoax, it's incredibly well organized. RIP, Judy, and let's keep some memory alive! She made a lot of good, both personnaly and in her professional activities.
The best person to confirm her death would be JonnyB and the Doghouse Digital guys based in Montreal. I find it strange that the Facebook page is written badly in French according to Arditti. Judy was francophone and you figure her friends and family are francophone also.
I did a google translate to swedish from that page and it hardly made sense but I think thats because of the translation program. As someone mentioned, if its a hoax its a very well done one but why? Is she in the protected wittnes program or something?
To Morbidthoughts and others like me who still search for an explanation... There is no way to check if comments made on Judy's RIP site are fake. People who have been there wrote the way they talk, which means there are a lot of mistakes that are similar to the ones one will find in chat rooms, in Twitter messages, etc.It just means people didn't care about that, they just wanted to express themselves towards Judy. I must also point out that I checked more than once obituaries in papers, website, local newspapers available on the web, and there was nothing related to Judy. She could have mentioned to relatives that she did not want the news of her death be made public. Whether or not her "death" was related to illness or suicide, her family might have decided to keep it private because she was known publicly. It is strange that other sources in news related to the industry did not inquire. There seems to be no TMZ nor National Enquirer when it comes to porn.

I do find the argument that there would have been no newspaper obituary for someone in porn to be slightly at odds with the logic of a public memorial page on facebook.
Tookie: I totally agree! And I can understand if her family doesn't want to put in an obituary outing her as porn star. They have probably done one on her real name without a picture. Its sad as hell thats she is gone! I miss her already!
Would her legal name not be Judy Star? If not, the obit would have been under her legal name and therefore people like us could not find it even if we tried. RIP, Judy.
That's what I don't get, is why would someone set up a facebook page with the privacy settings set to the most public, that reveals her real name, but keep it out of newspapers? Unless they have a different tradition for newspaper obituaries in Quebec compared to the US and English-speaking Canada.
Still I consider her being gone that facebook page looks way to legit to be a hoax. Only thing that can make me change my mind is if I see a video with Judy holding up a recent newspaper or something. One far fetched conspiracy theory would be that she faked her own death for some reason but I dont get why she would do that?
Found this thread on a forum for Montreal escorts. There is much discussion on whether or not it is true, but then it is confirmed by the moderators who appear to have some credibility with the Montreal escort scene. Also someone on the Luke Ford site made this posting which has other confirmation. All things considered, I believe the woman who performed under the name Judy Star is no longer with the living. Rest in peace.
Ok, got some more (unconfirmed) info of this Montreal escort forum: - Judy was, next to a pornstar, also an escort in Montreal. Several threads on that forum are about reviews on her doing that. - It seems Judy has hanged herself. Very sadly. She must have been tormented inside. Such a beautiful lady. RIP.
From Judy's facebook RIP site created in July, a friend or a relative (Julie Mantha) mentioned this : On ne connait pas la cause de son décès pour l'instant. Nous croyons à un malaise cardiaque mais ni a rien de confirmé. Ça prend plusieurs mois au coroner pour faire son enquête. merci October 1 at 8:29pm · So Judy presumably died from a stroke, but it has not been confirmed. It's a matter of months before an official report be available. But there was an autopsy.
I asked someone who works for some Montreal-based porn sites if he had heard anything. One of the sites he works for had happened to add another old DVD scene of her as an update, which made me think to ask. Anyway, at first he hadn't heard anything at all about her being dead, and asked me where I had heard about this. But by the next day he had evidently asked around, because he came back with "Unfortunately it is true about Judy Star. No one seems to know what happened, so people I’ve spoken to are speculating either suicide or overdose. They are saying that if it was an accident of some kind, people wouldn’t be so hush-hush. Pretty sad."
Because the significance of printed news media has drastically reduced over the past fifteen years. Even the need for personal sections whether online or printed. With the popularity of resources like Facebook and other resources fewer and fewer people turn to newspapers, online or printed. Edited by - mich on 12/14/2010 8:36:31 PM
As some already pointed out, it's strange there has been no obituary in any newspaper in the Montreal; area, either French or English about Judy's death. Which emphasizes the theory of her death as being the result of suicide or an overdose. Community does not mean the same thing anymore. People e-surround each pther through sites such as Facebook and care a lot less about printing such a news. Her family kept it private and people from the same group age as Judy created a page on Facebook. That's all.
Finaly we get confirmation from some random porn guy. It was so hard to tell whether she really had died when all there was was a facebook page that had posts from her father thanking people for attending her service.
I realize that my post is some months after the last one. Is it confirmed that Judy Star actually did pass away? All I have read so far in this thread is speculation. P.S. I can't find any reference to her passing on avn.com. I think it's a hoax. Edited by - billybob on 4/5/2011 12:28:04 AM
Went to Montreal last week and asked a veteran of the porn scene there, Katrina. She said it was a heart attack after a day of roller blading. No history of drugs and no evidence of it in the autopsy.
My only problem is why hasn't a reputable industry group like avn.com for example mentioned that Judy Star passed away? She was certainly a big enough star to get some sort of write up in her memory. This is what I don't understand. I believe that She has more than likely deceased but why all the hush hush from the Adult media?
^ Pornstarlets are disposable people. That's just a fact. Very few are remembered or cared for after their expiration date. But good lordy was Judy Star a World-Class pornstar. She really was.
Just making a very obvious observation. Not condoning it. And I'm not quite sure how my handle is making light of Cal Jammer's suicide. If anything, it's a feeble attempt at keeping his name out there and NOT forgotten, seeing as how I identify with some, if not all, of the things that drove him to take his own life, mainly his sense of abandonment and jealousy and rage at not being able to perform and keep his place in the industry. But if you read some kind of flip hostility in what I have written, then that's cool.

Blunt and to the point, but unfortunately very true. Porn performers are like professional atheletes, popular while playing, but the minute they retire, they drop out of the public's consciousness. Fortunately, DVDs don't take up much space and our retired faves live on in compilations. Edited by - rosco fuji on 4/12/2011 3:35:56 PM

I don't think it's a matter of anyone being "disposable," or "fading from the public's consciousness the moment they retire." (The endless stream of "what ever happened to?" posts, "Top Ten Performers you want to make a comeback" polls, "please ID this scene that I remember my friend had on a VHS tape in 1996" posts, etc., on ADT is ample evidence to the contrary.) Instead, I think it's just unrealistic to expect AVN would have the resources (or the inclination, even if they did have the resources) to verify the possible death of an ex-performer who lived in another country, apparently had a very common name, and apparently did not have family members or friends who felt the need to alert the porn media of her death. It's a trade rag, not the NY Times. They may spend a buck on covering a story that has industry-wide implications, like the Stagliano trial, but it's just not going to happen for something like this.

Endless stream? What site are you reading all of these on? Certainly not on ADT. While you disagree with retirees being disposable in the first paragraph you say it yourself in the second but in different words.
If drugs weren't involved then obviously she suffered from some undiagnosed or undisclosed medical problem that resulted in her untimely passing - which makes her death all that more tragic. My heart goes out to her family and friends. Judy Star will never be forgotten...
Rosco, I pass over those threads all the time. Sometimes I even open and read them. There may not be a dozen new threads of those varieties being started everyday, but they're still fairly common. Like has already been said, presumably next of kin aren't enthusiastic to talk to the porn media about it. If her colleagues in the industry have only been hearing hearsay, porn media sources that want to rise above gossip may choose to ignore this if they can't get any more substantive information. Rather than further spread gossip that later turns out to be incorrect. Edited by - Gentleman Jon on 4/13/2011 9:50:25 AM
