I have been a performer for a little over 4 years now and let’s just say it’s been the craziest roller coaster I have ever been on – all in good and bad ways.
When I started, I had no clue what to expect out of it. I was 19 at the time and wanted to have some fun, so when I got introduced to the business, I thought, “Why not try it out and see how it goes”. I started my porn journey in Florida in June of 09. People ask about my first scene… well, in a short description: it was a blur. The first time I had to fake an orgasm, I didn’t know what to say during the scene, and it was my first time swallowing cum. TMI? I know, but there is the answer. After that, you see what I do now!
STDs are a common thing in the business, and what I mean by STDs, is chlamydia and gonorrhea, which are easily cured with a shot and some pills. In the industry you are required to have a monthly test (and without that test, you can not work). We only get tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV and now syphilis (they also did this hepatitis B and C test for 2 weeks).
Anyways, when you catch something, you get treated and you are out for the week till you re-test. The first time I caught chlamydia was when I was 20 years old and I had to go to the hospital for it. I didn’t have any symptoms (and my test still had like two more weeks on it), so when the horrific pain started I just thought I was starting my girl cycle – till it got to the point where it hurt to even walk.
When I went to the hospital they did ultrasounds, put me on meds so the pain would be masked and did a blood test. I remember being back home in Texas when I got a call from the hospital informing me that I caught chlamydia and to immediately get meds to take care of it. At that point I should of left the business and stayed in Texas, but I took the chance and stayed in.
Porn is what I wanted to do. I didn’t want to go to school, I didn’t want a normal life, I wanted to have fun, I wanted to have sex, I wanted to be young. I knew all the consequences that came with the business and I knew from that time that I wanted to stay in the business and soak up the limelight. I wanted to have people know who I am.
Yes it sucks catching something, but we all know “clap” is curable and all we have to say is “OMG, I’m sick, I can’t work.” (code words so we are not called out as nasty, trashy, pieces of shit, that just fuck and catch STDs). We already get enough grief cause we are out in the open, on screen fucking people – so instead of adding more to that, we want to keep everything to ourselves. Anyone who says they never caught something is either a flat out liar, are an only condom performer, took meds every time they felt a little weird down under, are good at faking tests, or is just oddly lucky.
katie summers 02I recently went all condom, even though I’m currently not shooting at the time, cause this business has become more gross than when I started. Yes, I am now condom only plus the monthly test. I don’t understand the big deal about condoms, it’s healthier, we are less likely to catch anything, especially porn’s best friend, herpes, what a scary word, but get over it, 90% of us human beings have it, deal with it, there is pills you can take for it, or be smart and use a condom.
I think condoms are great, yeah I never used them in any of my films except for I think 3 or 4 scenes I used them, and I had an anal scene with a condom, its uncomfortable but I was totally fine after. I hate hearing people say, “I’m allergic”… well sweetheart there are condoms that come in different material, colors, textures, lubes, etc. – so to say you are allergic is bull shit. What couldn’t be better than to have condoms plus your test on set, its perfect. The business would be better, safer, and healthier – but, people don’t think like that…
These industry people just want to fight it and say, no one will buy it, it won’t sale, the industry will fall a part.
Look at Wicked, one of the biggest companies, and they are all condom, plus testing, and you never hear about any of those performers catching anything, so why can’t everyone look at them as idols, and take action? A question that has a debatable answer.
I am concluding this post by saying porn has it’s fun moments, but it has it’s very dark, scary, and bad moments that no one will ever address unless its forced in their faces. Hopefully this opens the eyes of the people that don’t fully understand what we as performers have to go through everyday. This is our life, this is our job – we fight the battles and we take pride in what we do to satisfy everyone’s desires and fantasies (including our own).
Yes, STDs are out there, but so are condoms. We need to make this industry a better place and a safer environment .
