Has anyone bought from kayparker.net? Any feedback? Are they reliable in sending overseas (I'm in Australia)? Are their DVDs good quality, accepting that they're from 'Golden Age' sources?
I'm particularly thinking of getting a Sahara compilation and two Loni Sanders compilations. If anyone has seen either of these in particular, or any of their star comps, please let me know what you thought.
I've been so tempted to order their Kay Parker stuff, but I am also wary. It's pricey enough that I would be very annoyed if it turned-out to be inferior quality footage taken from old, worn-out loops and videotapes. My fundamental issue is, that I can't believe they have the legal rights and permissions to be releasing what they do (therefore the serious concerns about quality... since they couldn't possibly be using the "masters").
Unfortunately I can't enlighten you but if the screen caps on the site are indicative, then they appear to be taken from VHS tape.
Copyright concerns too - scanning the pictures and titles listed, it's easy to spot movies from a wide variety of studios, including European studios like Marc Dorcel, to the extent that one wonders just how they could be able to acquire or afford the licence for the footage.
Thanks for the replies. Yes, good points. If you go to the page for their Sarah Louise Young compilations, you'll see that many of the screen caps have an odd little rectangle in the upper right corner. This is especially so for the second comp, halfway down the page. Looks to me like someone's covered a logo with a rectangle copied from the pic. I'm sure that's not how the masters would be.
Would the Golden Age fans in the Features forum be likely to know more about this?
Ah, good point Fergus - a quick search on there reveals a thread titled I Love Kay Parker!, started by gbg32 on Feb 27 2004 (you posted on it, Bob!), which contains the following post, dated Aug 13 2005...Have things changed since then? Can't say for sure, but by the look of what's on offer on the site, we can draw our own conclusions.
Thanks for looking into it. I'm not a quality-junkie. If it's a star I like in action I like, I won't mind flaws. But actually 'poor quality'... I expect some of the compilations would have widely varying quality on one disc ie a compilation covering from 1970-1985 would probably be a real grab bag, from complete crap to okay. Well, maybe I'll take a risk. If so, I'll post here again to let others know the result.
