Kimberly Kane/Avy Scott-Condom Only

The gorgeous Kimberly, who posts here at AdultDVDTalk from time to time, was signing at the Platinum X booth at Erotica LA. Little did the fans probably know that there is no way she will be in any boy/girl for that company or any of the gonzo companies for a while to come now. Why? She decided to change to condom-only. Here's the odd thing. A lot of girls did that in the wake of the HIV outbreak. However, most of them probably lived through 2 weeks to a month of essentially no work and went back to non condom. Pandora Dreams, a new girl getting mentioned around here, went through that. Kayla Marie at SpieglerGirls was listed as condom-only for a bit and now that note has disappeared. However, Kimberly is different. Why? Because she is so far sticking to her guns and, as AdultFYI pointed out, she's paying for it. In the article, it is mentioned that since making the decision she has gone from working every day to maybe two times every two weeks. She has lots of friends around the biz, including the Platinum X people, but they won't hire as long as she is condom only. She can try to sustain herself on the sparse b/g condom work she gets as well as turning to heavy girl/girl work. She might also consider dancing much more. Avy Scott is a veteran at this point. Whereas Kimberly has been in it for only a year, Avy has been around for several years. Upon her return from Florida, she was geared up to do a lot of hardcore scenes and was booked rather solid. However, in effect she only managed to get in her 2nd ever anal scene for Devils Film before the HIV outbreak happened. Then she went condom only and has lost work ever since. She mentions in her Yahoo group that she has had to turn down thousands of dollars because she is condom only now. She too is so far sticking to her guns. What's sad is that as a long time observer of the business (as well as a huge fan of both of these porn stars) it seems obvious that these two women will either break down and go back to non condom or fade away as girls who are willing to take the risk jump in. Kimberly believes herself to be too new a girl to really break into features and Avy has been around so long that apparently feature companies are reluctant to hire her because of her strict gonzo past. We've had the condom discussion at AdultDVDTalk many times. People have said stuff like "They're porn stars. They get paid so I can live out my fantasies. NO CONDOMS." I understand that. And I understand the companies who will defend not hiring these women because of the condom issue. Condoms on box covers equal horrible sales figures. I can imagine Jewel piping in to defend the policy. I get it. However, as a fan of these girls I just wanted to say that I admire their convictions thus far. Kaylani Lei caught off with Wicked and is now a contract girl and she was fairly new at the time. Maybe there's hope for Kimberly there, especially since she mentioned on KSEX that she will probably do anal eventually. And I think it is silly that feature companies are reluctant to hire Avy because of all the gonzo she did (I didn't pick that out of the air. She said it herself at her Yahoo group). What I know is that "Cum in My Mouth and I'll Spit it Back in Your's 2" from Devils Film just came out. Avy Scott was supposed to be in for an anal scene with Mark Davis. The condom decision made that null. It ain't easy to make such decisions. Good luck to them. A small part of me would love to see them return to non-condom work. Not because I have something against condoms though. It's just because that way I could see them in scenes again, from companies I love. It's extremely selfish of me though and hope they don't do anything they don't really want to. I don't buy the idea that feature companies are shying away from Avy Scott because she's done too much gonzo in her past. That may be what she believes, or the face she wants to put on it, but I'm skeptical that such a sentiment is widespread. After all, the biggest gonzo stars appear in features all the time. Aurora Snow certainly made her name in gonzo, and appeared in many features for several companies even before her contract. I've seen Jenna Haze (pre-JKP), Cameron Cain, and yes, Avy Scott in Wicked movies. Off the top of my head. I don't know what the reason is, but I can't believe it's the gonzo thing. It's her life and her health. Clearly she's a very smart woman and knows what she wants from her life. The thing that bugs me is that porn producers force partners on the women. Often times they are men they've never met or know anything about. Maybe there's a way around the problem. Why isn't it more acceptable for a woman to only work with men who have only worked with women a particular woman knows and trusts--people known to be totally free of disease. I KNOW that porn titles aren't bought or rented for the guys. Maybe the smart thing to do for Avy, since she's been very successful is to set up her own production company with such a limited pool of performers. That way she could dump the condoms. Stephanie Swift did a gangbang and god knows what else before signing with Wicked. And we're not just talking about contracts, but simply working in features. Name just about any gonzo-type actress and you'll find her in features by the most couples-oriented companies. Hell, Brooke Ballentine was in Adam & Eve's "Rawhide" ... there must be something else at work. Feature shoots may be a little different from gonzo in the way they do things. And, I wasn't going to bring this up originally, but having seen Avy read lines in a Specs Appeal vignette and in the aforementioned Wicked movie ("Second Chance") -- she's really, really remarkably bad at it. Though she has said on several occasions she prefers to do the gonzo work instead of features. Her shift to condom only (which I entirely support) will probably necessitate a change in that area. If you look back through a lot of the posts she has stated that Platinum X will stay condom free which is perfectly fine. She'd love to hire them for girl/girl work though. Anyhoo, from the recent batch of posts from Avy herself at her Yahoo group she is more determined than ever now to stay condom-only. She ain't gone either. She is still working and mentioned that she has actually done several anal scenes all ready with condoms. I think I was looking at this a tad too negatively. I can still Avy and see her in anal scenes. It just means I that I have to deal with companies I generally don't like. I do it with Devinn Lane and Wicked. It's no big deal.
