So, so sad about this. One of my faves. She seemed so sweet and it was a shame to see her struggling and she honestly didn't look happy/all there in her latest shoots. Poor girl.
I'm shocked to hear of the news. It makes me sad that she's gone. An amazing and beautiful woman that was gone too soon.
Past months of hearing news of Jesse Jane's death, Emily Willis hospitalization and some recent retirements of performers. I'm really hoping that there can be a more conversation of taking care of performers mental health and addictions in the future.
^Unfortunately drugs and mental health are striking the modern society like a plague, I'm really hope that the performers can somehow manage to get help and now I'm just send my condolences to Kagney and her family.
Damn, she was one of my favorite performers and I just recently just watched the scene with her on Dogfart just a few month ago. Another performer passed away first Jesse Jane, and now Kagney. My best friend's uncle took his own life about five years ago and I know how it feels but hopefully it's never too late to get help anyway RIP
I wish she could have known how much she was appreciated as a human being. Depression can make anyone think the worst of themselves, and can invent reasons to make you hate yourself when there are none. As much as any performer on any stage or medium, she made people happy. Her not knowing this, or perhaps this not being enough, makes me very sad.
I just found out about this and to find out what was the cause it really makes me even sadder. Depression and mental illness in general is real. Kagney didnt seem like she was the type that would do what she did. She seemed like she was full of life and energy. But as I say that I thought the same about the late August Ames. Im just really shook by this bc Kagney was a beautiful and sweet person. Loved her smile. Loved her voice. Now she is gone. Just breaks my heart.
I really hope anyone that is suffering with mental illness to reach out for help. Dont suffer alone. Im truly at a lost for words right now trying to wrap my head around this. Rest in peace sweet and beautiful Kagney Linn Karter.
Seconded. If you're feeling ashamed to ask for help, realize that shame is all in your head, and it's your head that's in need of attention. Depression doesn't need a cause, except for what's going on inside one's brain. Looking through the GoFundMe page for Kagney's memorial, it would appear she was very much loved, and even admired and respected, by her closest family and friends. I'm so glad they were there, because many people suffering from depression are not that lucky. And I'm so very sorry for what they're facing. I hope they know this is not their fault, or that they they didn't say or do enough. She was loved, by them and by us.
I remember seeing her years ago on a British documentary about porn and she looked a deeply unhappy and troubled person back then. It seems like porn can be such a shitty business, having a massively negative effect on so many young women. Sure, there will be plenty of people who will think it's fine, but the casualties are piling up.
I was very happy I got to her in person with friends of mine. She was feature dancing in NY, me and my friends got to hangout with her before her showtime of her show. She was a blast. She will be missed.

Very sad situation. Based on the BTS stuff I saw, Kagney seemed to have a really sweet personality and wanted to be loved. She mentioned being sad that guys were intimidated by her hotness, not seeing her sweet side right away.. also her aspirations to direct.
another performer we've lost to this industry, because there is nowhere near the level of support that performers need to cope with the toll this industry takes on their personal lives

It makes me really sad that these days when I see a thread that's been quiet for awhile that I wonder if something bad happened. In this case, I'm so sorry to have been cynical :( Kagney has been a favorite of mine for over 15 years and this is another devasting loss to the industry. RIP Kagney and condolences to her friends and family.
The adult industry can be a rough business because many girls have to deal with agents who can take an advantage of them, including their some sleazeball directors and male talent who can be abusive at times. Now these anti-porn folks are going to start using Kagney death as an example not to go into the porn industry which they mostly blame porn for this. I saw this tweet from an ex porn performer goes by the name of Jewel De'Nyle and This is what she got to say
We all read the stereotype that many adult performers come from broken lives but that's not true most performers who enter the adult industry are mostly college graduates or career women who decide to to get into the porn business. BTW wasn't there a documentary about Kagney many years ago because I heard of it but I never seen it

Correct me if I am wrong but Sadly, most of the doctors make the problem worse by giving them drugs. I wonder what events led to her deciding to take her life?

So sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed her work, especially her personality that came thru so well in her videos. I live minutes away from one of her Alchemy fitness locations and I always thought about going over there just to meet her and say hello. But I never did out of respect for her privacy and I didn't want to be mistaken for some fanboy/stalker. Perhaps I should've taken the chance. She is missed.
Meds alone won't help. I think that's a misconception of just giving someone who is sick meds and they will be ok. It's more than that. They need a support system. They need structure. The least little random thing can send them spiraling. We don't know what triggered her to do what she did. Nobody may never know. Could just be she was tired of fighting this battle. It's sad bc the way I see it is she had so many people who truly loved and cared for her and it has impacted so many lives that she is gone.
We should never take life for granted bc we don't know what tomorrow will bring.
Back in the days what a star she was! What a performer she was! Every comeback from her got me excited. Was looking forward to another comeback late in 2023.

I was about to say the same thing. Took me a long time to watch her scenes again after watching that documentary. It really showed a woman struggling to put her life together. Her boyfriend was made to look like he was leeching off her while she put herself out there. Tragic watch.
and sadly, this won't be the last of the victims of this industry - Kagney has struggled for years to leave (she kept coming back after "retiring and going straight") and you could tell she was trying to build a life away from the industry, and struggling to do so because the people she was around were still leeching from her fame
I am truly saddened that this has happened to a lovely girl, and really feel concerned that there will be more, and still the "adult entertainment industry' will pretend it's the person, not the industry that is responsible for this
Kagney could have been helped many times over, if her colleagues (and employers) actually cared about their talent
Didn't know that she was struggling, sometimes what we see on in scenes, we may not know what's going on in their personal life. I know their lives are private but wish they knew they could have turn to professional health workers that could help them out. KLK was a great entertainer, but this tragedy makes me more conscious that adult entertainers are people, no different from anyone trying to earn a living and dealing with the daily grind. RIP KLK, wish it wasn't you that I had to hear this about.
The details are truly heart breaking. Apparently she took herself out Kurt Cobain style. Statistically, that is a rare occurrence for a woman. I pray for her family.

This is a great point. I think adult entertainment consumers forget about that a lot.
This message board, and others, are filled with people demanding that their favorite stars do things that they want them to do but that the woman may not want to do or isn't ready for yet (whatever the reasons).
I am sure these demands are then double-downed and then triple-downed by managers, studios, directors, etc. making the women feel that they HAVE to do them. The mental stress on these women must be terrible. That stress can lead to other things to help them cope.
These women ARE real and have real feelings. We all could learn to remember that.
Just horrible, sad and heartbreaking news. Unfortunately, we'll continue to lose porn stars due to drug overdose or suicide, especially female stars. I know myself and many of us hate to see our favorite performers retire early, but maybe it's for the best. RIP sweet-sweet Kagney!
It is truly sad that Kagney's life had to end this way as she was one of thew superstars of porn during her day. Suicide is not unique to the porn industry as people from all walks of life take this way out. We hear it all to often people in entertainment, business and even kids in school who were victims of bullying taking their own lives. We may never know what Kagney's reasons were whether it was financial, relations based, or depression or something not even related to her porn background. Either way it is always sad when we see someone who has given so much pleasure in the past end it this way.
When Kagney was feature dancing in NY. She discussed her substance abuse and almost lost everything to me. I was very happy she got sober and stay away from alcohol and drugs. I don't consider a friend, but I got to knew her personally. I will totally miss Kagney when she came to NY to feature dance.
I've been a boxing fan my whole life. Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on my dad's knee watching boxing, back in the days when big fights were shown on closed-circuit TV, and the world's heavyweight champion was the biggest celebrity in all of sport. I even worked out at the local boxing club in my youth, before ruining my knee in a Judo tournament.
I still love boxing, and follow it as much as ever, but knowing now how pugilistic dementia (the historical, and, I think, correct, name for CTE) occurs, and what the outcomes are, I find it genuinely painful, in a deep, moral sort of way, whenever I see a fighter take a sustained string of sub-concussive blows over many rounds, even as I respect his courage.
I now pretty much feel the same way about porn. :(
