It's honestly exhausting, and somewhat ironic, that someone who identifies as non binary spends that much energy talking about how they're non binary. like isn't one of the big reasons you identify as non binary is because you feel gender is limiting? so why are we continuing to talk about it so exhaustively?

it's like militant vegans or atheists imo.

Perhaps Kristen hopes their openness to talk about their coming out will help others who are uncertain or closeted about their gender identity?

It comes across as belittling and dismissive to write off somebody who talks candidly about something very personal like as being "exhausting". If a Jewish person talked at length about anti-Semitic abuse they faced or wanted to dispel misconceptions about being Jewish, would you dismiss them as being "exhausting"?

You all did it all the time too. "Who's the new boss?" "Not sure, but they start tomorrow." Completely natural and common.

It's only in the past few years, since some people have been asking others to refer to them as "they" as their personal pronoun, that people are pretending they can't wrap their minds around it.

What is NOT natural and common is using "they" when the gender of the person is KNOWN. Such usage would be extremely UNcommon and UNnatural.

It is only in the past few years that society has begun to acknowledge that gender is not always a clearly defined, either/or proposal.

It is completely understandable that people would have difficulty changing speaking habits that have been ingrained since infancy.

It is also true that there are those who are simply obnoxious, and will never try to change for the sake of someone else.

Whatever pronouns Kristen Scott prefers, the correct adjective is the one that appears in the title of this thread -- wonderful!

But people get caught up over the singular vs plural thing, and that's not the big difference. The big difference is the known subject vs unknown subject.

But just going back, in my native German (of 40 years) (and italian, which I speak for 35 years), your example question is much more of a mine field than the English one, so be happy it’s only the pronouns: Instead of "Who’ll be the new boss?", in German you might ask "Wer wird der neue Chef sein?" (or Italian: "Chi sarà il nuovo chef?"), and already you have determined the gender of the assumed boss ("der"). If you already knew it was a she, then you’d have to ask "Wer wird die neue Chefin sein?" or "Chi sarà la nuova chef?"
Which today then leads to things (in writing) such as "Wer wird der/die neue Chef/Chefin sein?" (that’s the correct form, but longest), and alternatives such as "Wer wird die neue Chef*in sein?", "Wer wird die neue Chef:in sein?", "Wer wird die neue ChefIn sein?", "Wer wird die neue Chef_In sein?" and multiple other variants denoting that "Chef" may be both genders... Which is all done to be "gender equal" (meaning more inclusive for females), but totally leaves out any more genders, I guess before tackling this, in German reaching male/female gender equality gets a priority over non-binary-ishness.
An aside at the end: companies looking for employees write their searches as "Looking for manager (m/w/d)", with m/w/d denoting m=male, w=female, d=diverse, i.e. any gender. But in reality, all they are looking for are m+w+d, i.e. m=male + w=white + d=deutsch (german, no foreigners, especially immigrants please).
