Hi I just discovered this site today. What a great place to discuss Adult DVD issue's. Now on to the topic. I am amazed at how little there is in extras on DVD's. Vivid and Metro have the most the I have seen so far. I know it cost money to do this, but some don't even include trailer's. I have seen an improvement over the first wave of DVD's. So maybe this improving. To tell the truth I don't know what more they could do to improve them. Maybe we could bat around some Idea's? Glad I found this place! Gojira54
Welcome, Gojira54! Your comments are right on...I'm a lover of DVD extra features both in the adult and mainstream DVD world. That was my biggest single disappointment when I moved over to the adult side since extras were pretty much nothing or next to nothing. Fortunately, I've seen the industry move leaps and bounds in the right direction over the past few months. More and more studios are putting real extras in, not just photo galleries and clips, but commentaries, behind the scenes footage, nice menus, and so forth. I've found that it's hard to generalize which studios are producing the most feature filled discs, since one of their DVDs may be chock full 'o stuff while another is baren. It depends a lot on the popularity of the title, the budget available, and the current studio attitude toward DVD. I don't think there's any thought given to DVD-specific production unless the film is viewed as a major project to begin with (or is a "shot-for-DVD" video, like the virtual sex genre). The most feature-filled DVD I've seen yet is [url=468138]Electric Sex: Special Collector's Edition</A. It can go head to head against most mainstream Hollywood DVDs. Not a stat sheet or just a filmography, but a nice two or three screen biography. I love behind the scenes. Mobster's Wife won me over 'cause of the behind the scenes footage (so did Alexandra Silk for being so personable in that footage.) For gonzo flicks I like when they give credits before each scene - that really helps. More candid interviews would be nice too. Hi Gojira54 and welcome to the forum!
Thanks for the warm welcome! One thing I would like to see is better Classic DVD's. Maybe Special editions. I would have loved to see a special edition of New Wave Hooker's. Do I really think this is possible no. Considering the poor ways Hollywood stored its films. I could only imagine what Porn Valley has done with it Classics. I think the studio that doesn't get enough recognition is Private. They always have behind the film specials, future release trailers, bios with work the girls have done on video,cd-rom, magazines. The menus are layed out well, maybe I'm biased but nothing else compares.
The adult film industry is like NASAs new slogan: faster, cheaper, more missions, etc... You make more money with volume than quality of product... very few big budgets these days. Old school commentaries for the classics would be great [deep throat, devil in miss jones, behind the green door, mandingo, debbie does dallas...] Create a remastered SE classics series. ------------------
