Evasives Angles is the only studio (afaik) to do it right, with their Big Butt All Stars series; most of them are 2-disc sets and even includes the various BTS bits from the various original discs.

In this day an age where the economy isn't all that good I see a lot of comps but very few are star based. I wonder why studios like 3rd Degree, Zero Tolerance, Elegant Angel, Evil Angel don't release comps of some of the more popular girls. They cost very little, the scenes are already shot. They release comps but none are all of one girl. Girls like Kristina Rose, Tori Black, Jenna Haze etc. [Link] |

And I know that Jules Jordan, Manuel Ferrara, and Belladonna have released the occasional comp about performers that they especially love hiring. In my experience, one of the worst offenders for creating multiple cheap comps with 4 HOURS! 20 SCENES! displayed prominently on the cover is Vivid. For example, if want a DVD featuring nothing but Jessica Drake, I can buy Jessica Tonight from Wicked because all her scenes are owned by one studio. Please believe that when I refer to Jenna's new movie as a comp I mean that in the best way possible. It's a star based comp featuring 100% new scenes and some older scenes that will be new to most people. It also qualifies as comp because of its variety of scenes, not just their freshness. It has Solo, B/G, Anal, Swallowing and a lot more! The term comp has a negative connotation in the adult industry due to a lot companies trying to up their profit margin by reselling old material. Many of them are junk and not worth the money. The star based comps however, are more like Greatest Hits collections and are increasingly hard to come by due to the freelance contract style of hiring used by gonzo companies, who dominate the market these days. Elegant Angel tends to make a whole movie with brand new scenes based on one girl which is great like the Tori Black Pretty Filthy, EVAlutionary, the Squirtwoman and Buttwoman series. However, they do have enough scenes from all these girls shot in past series to make comps of each girl as well. I won't buy a disc if there's only one scene with a girl I like. But I'll buy the comp for sure, it's an automatic buy for me. There just aren't enough of them. Zero Tolerance annoys me somewhat. I really dig Eva Angelina. She's done enough scenes for them to release a comp of hers but what did ZT do? they release a Eva Angelina/Teagan comp. WTF is that? Vivid is the best studio for all star comps. Oddly where Vivid fails greatly is the star specific movie. If they release a movie featuring a specific star, she typically will be in only 1 or 2 scenes in that movie. That's always bothered me. They have as of late gotten much better about this like with Lia's First Time for example is a movie very specifically about porn star Lia. There are 7 scenes in all if you count the DVD bonus scene. Of those 7 scenes Lia is in 3 of them, the first scene which is solo (her only) and two more lesbian scenes. Anywho, I don't know why studios tend to focus on sex acts vs the girl. I am working with the company who now owns the old Torrid Entertainment line (the Taylor Rain line) and they are going to do some comps of those and I promise they will be porn star specific. :) [Link] |
