I have been wondering why there's such a severe lack of online paid monthly subscription websites offering classics for download.
I know that there are classic blu-ray's being released that are of very high quality by Vinegar Syndrome and a couple of other companies. But I don't know of one single website that offers high quality downloads of restored classics through monthly memberships.
Vinegar Syndrome is a streaming only service. I will NEVER pay money to watch something I can't download and keep. I will not buy blu-rays for a few reasons: Space is one, at some point having all these boxes and discs becomes ridiculous in regards to storage. Second, monthly memberships to sites are cheaper than buying the discs. And lastly, those that live outside the US have to deal with customs or a local store overcharging for special orders.
I would even be willing to pay to download per movie. A fee that's a bit less than ordering the physical disc.
I know Hustler has a classics section on their website but as far as I know the quality is questionable, and most of it is late 80's stuff with little to nothing from the 70's or early 80's.
Does anyone know of any online subscriptions sites that offer classics for download? I find it very odd that somebody hasn't taken advantage of the fact that NOBODY is offering something like this.

I think that is because there are so few companies that are restoring the classics. Vinegar Syndrome, that you mentioned, has their own streaming service Exploitation.tv, so they are unlikely to lease out their restored prints to someone else. Distribpix (Video-X-Pix) has very slowly been releasing remastered releases but they seem to have a deal with Exploitation.tv. I am not sure if After Hours Cinema has a deal with Exploitation.tv as well but it looks like several of their releases are available on it (I don't subscribe I still like physical media). Synapse, who has released some classics, seems to have something going with Vinegar Syndrome as well (they used material and prints from Vinegar Syndrome on their Sinful Dwarf Blu-ray). I don't know who has the rights to the older Media Blasters prints from the short-lived Raincoat Theater. If Vinegar Sydrome has deals with the bulk of the companies that are actually restoring prints, you are unlikely to see the remastered titles show up outside of Exploitation.tv.

A lot of classic are available for purchase as downloads via Adultempire, Hotmovies and AEBN. Almost all the Alpha France and Cecil Howard catalogue is available on Hotmovies (last I looked).

Sadly Cecil Howard's titles on hotmovies are not downloadable. Neither are Video-X-Pix.

Bummer, sorry to steer you wrong. I usually stream classics on VOD to see if I dig them enough to order a DVD or blu but I assumed they would make them available for download too. Adultempire does offer VideoXPix, CalVista and VCA catalogues as downloads. The Misty reissue is available in 720p HD.

Update: Adultempire also has a lot of Alpha France available for download but no Cecil Howard. Think Cecil made an exclusive deal with Hotmovies.
