If anyone is looking for some good artporn, or if you have a latex fetish, this flick is for you. I'm not into the rubber (no condoms were used, btw) but I can see why this movie garnered so much critical acclaim, even though the sex was a little too stylized for my taste.
Latex is old-school Ninn. Given that it's almost 10 years old, it looks pretty dated, and Ninn tended to use a lot of CGI and chroma-keying effects in those days.
"Stylized" pretty much describes most of Ninn's work, from the Latex/Shock/Forever Night phase to the Cashmere/Diva series to the Ritual/Fade to Blue phase to his Private days to the founding of his own studio. All of his work is fairly similar in style and artistry.
I had a five-year hiatus from porn, and when I came back it started with Ninn's later VCA work, particularly Cashmere, which remains one of my favorite DVDs.
I prefer that period (Ritual, Dark Garden) to the earlier stuff (Sex 1 & 2, Shock) and his more recent work.

I watched "Sex 1" and "Sex 2" last week and was blown away by how good porn used to be! Ninn was/is a craftsman. The girls were all done up to perfection, and the production values rival mainstream Hollywood. Probably a better "movie" than most current mainstream movies as well.
I'm an old raincoater... Started out stroking to films in real movie houses, moved to video and now DVD and computer porn. I lived through the past 35 years of porn and, honestly, forgot how good the "good stuff" used to be (And, yes, there used to be a lot of crap too).

Yeah, I've heard others say that this is one of the best porn movies they've ever seen, yet there's not a single review here on it. Since this double feature can be found for under $10. I might have to buy it, even though I've been thinning out my dvd's to just a few choice ones :)
I just watched Acid Dreams last night, and I have to say that I loved it. It wasn't 100% hit with me, but I'd say it was about 85% starting out with some great Pink Floyd-ish music. 2funky4U was a definite miss for me and Perfect left me a little disappointed, but Acid Dreams really worked for me!

I was disappinting by Perfect, which was indeed very beautiful but never produced in me an erection (I'm not exaggerating. Not ONE !). My main peeve with Ninn is his systematic use of slo-mo, which to me is the biggest turn-off, whether in soft or hardcore. I get this stupid feeling that I've got to masturbate in slo-mo too. "Latex" & "Sex" are still movies that I can enjoy, out of memory I can even cite the kitchen scene b/w Sunset & Colt and the bedroom scene b/w Tiffany & Gerry as big turn-ons. The last scene in "Perfect" b/w Jodie Moore & Nick Manning is visually stunning, but once again all in erection-killing slo-mo.

It seems like Ninn is very hit or miss, and people have a wide range of opinions on his work.

I think the story of Latex and it's sequel Shock is more consistent, and better thought of than that of the mainstream "Matrix"-trilogy (I admit, this is not a big deal).
Basically I use the sentence go fly a kite^W^W^W^W "Leave me alone with your ill founded opinion or see "Shock" from Ninn and maybe a few Blake and Mourthe DVDs to minimize the substantial lack of data in your arguments" as a killer-argument, if someone sings the song with the refrain "porn-movies are (dull/have no plot/have no erotic quality)".

Dumblonde, you and I have probably the very similar tastes. Unless I am mistaken, you like Andrew Blake, Micheal Ninn, and Paul Thomas. Those are my favorite directors. On this site, there's no question that gonzo rules, but I don't recall ever implying that that gonzo lovers represent 'most men', not at all. Most men that I know personally, and ones that I get email from, it's quite the opposite.

I think it is likely a variation of the "splatter-movie phenomenon", which only attract a small but very outspoken (on the net) group of people and therefore it seems that there are more of them on the net than "in real life".
Although many people will watch the occasional splatter or gonzo, the die-hard gonzo or splatter lovers seem to watch every flick hitting the market. So their influence on the market is also stronger, than their actual numbers would suggest.

I would recommend Dark Garden. A very theatric art porn movie with hot sex. I like when Decker and Mia Smiles are going at it. I also like when finesse powefucker Julian powefucks Julia Ashton with precision. Julian powefucks as hard as Everhard, but the difference is that Julian powefucks and it is in rythym. I never watched pure gonzo. I think it is too plain to me and I get the impression they fuck at these cheesy places. I don't like this Vangelis/Jean Micheal-Jarre synthesiser music, although I have to admit it is better than in most other porn-movies. Oh, and mr. I saw Latex when I was in high school, and it changed both how I look at sex and my views on life. I don't think there are too many films that challenged it for the crown back then, and probably can beat some of the new artistic ones now.

When I saw Latex at a party, I became a Juli Ashton fan. I actually watched the credits to learn her name. I have been a BIG fan of hers ever since.
It is much better than Shock in my opinion. They both look dated, but remind me when porn actually had a place to go. Rather than say, fade in, here I am, fuck me, cum on me, fade out.
Latex was certainly stunning visually, but Sex was just a warmer movie, imo. Opening with that gorgeous outdoor scene on the Cadillac, then another hot car sex scene in that taxicab, it had my full attention, LOL. Sunset had 4 or 5 sex scenes, IIRC.
Just my personal preference however, and probably hampered by the fact that I FF>> thru most of Jon Dough's lengthy dialogue in Latex, though I agree a special edition would be great.

That kinda surprises me. It has been a long time ago since I have seen these, so I don't remember exactly. Could you tell me what was on the soundtrack of those scenes in Sex ? I remember no direct, diegetical sound at all.
Have you seen Cashmere ? Of all the Ninn movies I have seen, I liked that one the best. It's the least pretentious and the most fun, in a cheesy 'bubblegum' kind of way.

It hasn't been that long since I watched Sex, but to be honest I can't recall exactly what is on the soundtrack during the sex scenes. Normally I dislike music (and love outdoor scenes) so it could have been very much in the background. I do remember Tiffany Million talking during that backseat boning, telling Pike to "just shut up and drive" etc.
Just got around to watching this one, confirming the MN's early stuff is about as good as anything out there. The soundtrack was by Dino, and similar to the theme in Latex.
Cashmere is on my list too. There just doesn't seem to be much current stuff I'm interested in. Could be nostalgia.
Cashmere is an excellent movie, with lots of warm colours, which is opposed to many of MN's other work. Very stylish.

Longer rant ---> I've now seen perhaps 8 or 9 Ninn projects. Cashmere is by far one of the least exciting as concerns sex. The film-making is very good, but who cares if you get reeeeal tired of blonde wigs real fast? The sets were great, but so what? Vicca and Nikita would have made great KGB secret agents compromising Americans, but alas they are cast as American youth instead! Where the hell were the bikers and hot rodders? How about ANY chick in tight make-ya-drool jeans? The term Cashmere , for me, brings up images of sweater covered boobs of delectable quality, about an eighth inch from being completely in your face. Yeah, but making it work in porn might be a tricky thing. For one thing, the sweater look with tight pedal pushers and too-large, Sophia Loren-type sun glasses is pretty dated. It might not translate at all to a younger audience. Still, I'd like to see it tried. One of the most intriguing scenes I've seen in the past few years is the real Sophia Loren tempting Matthau in a bar in "Grumpier Old Men." That one seemed to translate just fine. In fact I imagine it leapt over any and all barriers.
