I recently read an article on sex work generally and while the data shows that independent escorts like their work, have control over their work, are safe and make good money the prevailing idea among so many people is that ALL sex work involves coercion. Back 12 years or so ago we had a conservative federal government that wanted to change our mostly-lax sex work laws. The majority of the population supported fewer restrictions but the government played to its base and tightened them. I recall the preamble of the Bill was something along the lines of "whereas all prostitution is abusive and involves coercion..." On topic - I hope Leah is doing well. I'm sure there are layers to this story that we don't know. But then again, the same people who view all sex work are also apt to pre-judge others. And then they go to church. [Link]
