This idea just popped into my head, and I haven't thought it all the way through, so I was hoping for others input to help flesh it out, or maybe to find that it's unworkable. It no doubt gets costly for reviewers to have to buy all the DVDs they review, and I know if I just shelled out $25 for a DVD I didn't like, it would definately affect my review (and maybe rightly so). We all have DVDs that we could live without for a while, I rarely watch even a good one more than a couple of times, so if there was someway to circulate these for the common good, even on a temporary basis, maybe I wouldn't feel so guilty about buying so many! It would generate more reviews - but then again, it might be a nightmare to administrate. What do you think?

Many of the reviews on ADT are written from free "screener" copies that we receive from the studios. Not all of the studios work directly with ADT to provide us with review copies. In those cases we usually purchase the DVDs from one of the stores we work with and send them out to reviewers. You'll notice that there's a serious lack of reviews for some studios. That's because they don't send their DVDs to us to and we simply don't have the dinero to buy them.

When we send out a DVD for a review the reviewer gets to keep it. We don't ask for it back. We've already spent $3.20+ to send it out Priority Mail. Why spend another $3.20+ to get it back? (I don't need that much porn. ) Besides, writing a good review takes a lot of time and effort. It would be rather unfair to ask for them back when we get them for free. When we pay for them we sometimes request that they be returned so we can send them out to another reviewer.

If the reviewers want to start swapping titles that's up to them. We would love to get more reviews for the DVDs we send out. (If you swap titles on your own dime please don't feel obligated to submit a review but would appreciate it if you have the time.) Shipping costs can be expensive though. It might be worth it for a disc you're really interested in and it's a helluva lot cheaper than buying it at a store. If you go this route please be conscious of giving out any personal information and/or shipping addresses. Most people are harmless but you can never be too cautious.

If you are interested in getting DVDs for review we ask that you submit a couple of reviews as writing samples for DVDs that you have previously purchased. If Steph likes your stuff then there's a chance that you'll get some DVDs. No guarantees.

Smartblonde, you can send me whatever you are bored with and I'll review it on the condition that I get to keep it. ;)

I hope the studio's provide more screener copies to ADT myself. I figure that the level of effort required to get in on any free dvd program will keep most people out-way too much work for most of us. Given the quality of reviews lately (ie: few single paragraph reviews make it), I doubt there'd be much competition for most of the freebies. I suspect that Steph will cut anyone from the program if their reviews show little effort. At least I hope so. ;)

Drew - thanks for that info., I didn't realize that's how it worked. So, I won't lose any more sleep worrying about their pocketbooks & I'll just have to learn to live with the guilt!
