I think that's a female thing, to want to be beautiful more than cute. To us guys, neither is better than the other, even if we understand the difference. Actually, to tell the truth, I'm generalizing from things that Lindsey Meadows wrote. Maybe there are lots of other girls out there who don't care whether they are called beautiful or cute.

I differentiate among cute, pretty, and beautiful. "Cute" applies to a lot of girls who enter the business in their teens, and usually connotes to me a certain kind of youthful enthusiasm, somethimes shyness. "Beautiful" usually applies to women who make me gasp when I see them, and is usually reserved for women who are out of their teens. I find it difficult to apply that tag to teen-agers, and when I do, it's usually to a European girl. As I've noted before, they seem to grow out of girlhood more quickly -- or at least attire, make up and carry themselves as if they have -- more quickly than their American counterparts.
