Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this thing?
Norton's is still saying that I don't have a virus and isn't picking up any spyware.
Suggestions?

Tonight, I've noticed some light-blue advertisement overlays / banner-like things at the bottom of a number of ADT pages. I haven't seen these on any other site that I've been to. Are these something new that have been added in ... or is this something wrong with my computer? | DrP0rn0 Senior Member 1836 Posts 5/04 | Posted - Apr 21 2010 : 11:49AM If that doesn't pick it up, you might also try the free Spybot Search and Destroy. The only caution about Spybot is that it takes a LONG time to run. If it finds something, it will run again at startup, which will keep your computer running *just* that until it's done searching again. This can seemingly take forever (30 to 40 minutes), but it *is* worth it if you have a nasty malware infection. If those two don't get rid of it, you likely have a new or very nasty malware. In those cases I generally find it easier to rebuild the OS and applications from scratch rather than fight it. Let's hope these programs get it removed for you easily. Dr. P [Link] |

I ultimately just re-loaded the whole system and my programs -- the computer was starting to act like crap, anyway on other fronts. It was funny, though, as I was able to identify the probable source of the problem -- a cnet download of "Free Sound Recorder", which they say is spyware- / virus-free. I found this by reloading the system to its original factory setting and then going online -- no blue banners. I then put that program back on (which is when the banners started to begin with)--and, presto, blue banners again. So...I then did the factory settings restore again and installed everything (except the sound recorder), and all has been fine since. [Link] |

Cons: The major con that outweighs the positive is that spyware is included in this application. Summary: "You hereby acknowledge that Application may send some private information to Simplygen or to Publisher" found in the Eula. What bothers me is the deceptive way the makers of this software introduce this bit of spyware aka autocomplete pro. When you install the default is checked for the quick installation which includes the autocomplete spyware. The default settings should not include autocomplete pro. If it does it should be stated more prominently rather than trying to sneak it by the user. The default intro mentions it but does not describe what its function is and you only find out by picking out one sentence in a 1245 word Eula. While technically they may have done the very least to have this app not considered spyware, since they deceptively sneak it past most users, it?s still spyware to me. Honestly who reads every single Eula of the apps they install on their program? I was upset to see search recommendations in my google search bar when I typed in search words and could not recall installing an app that does so. I did a malware scan and autocomplete pro came up... If a product/software is good then I will buy it. I appreciate it when a software vendor doesn?t try to pimp out junkware in order to squeeze a few bucks out of trail product users. Winrar is a good example of a good software vendor does it; no obnoxious ad or add on apps just a good product that I will buy once the trial period is over partially because they don?t try to dupe me with spyware and mostly because it?s a great product. I uninstalled did a virus scan removed all remnants of this app from my registry and I?m moving on.
