Linux is a lot safer than Windows, just for starters.

I run Ubuntu, Edubuntu, and FreeBSD (and m0n0wall, pfsense and FreeNAS, oh and g4u). I use gparted and dsl sometimes, too. Been known to play with a little Knoppix, Freesbie, and Wolvix. Dynebolic(?) has a nifty "multimedia player" livecd distro. Have run SmoothWall, Ipcop, and floppyfw in the past. Still support an AIX box. I love *nix in all its incarnations above and beyond Windows all day and all night, too.

Lovely!

And of course you can trick out Linux to look 10 hex better than Vista ;-) Beryl, Compiz...Sure its harder to do, and maybe unstable!, but so much fun.

Mandrake, slackware, CentOS, Austrumi, SuSe .. they're all good, too.

And Novell NetWare should have won the NOS war, but oh well.

Ah, Netware, that brings back memories. Install your server and forget about it and it will still be up years later...
