I seem to recall that Harley Jade actually announced her retirement. Marriage was the reason for her departure IIRC. She did reappear on Twitter a couple of years ago but to my knowledge she hasn't produced any new material.
As for me, a lot of chicks that I've followed in this business has simply vanished, but most of them were active back in the day before virtually every preformer had a social media presence of some kind. In my humble estimation, leaving without a trace was sort of the norm back then.
As for more recent gals, Brittany Shae had a career that seemed to steam along nicely before her sudden disappearance.

I was heartbroken when my all-time favorite star Avy Scott disappeared in the early 'teens. She shot some of the hottest scenes in memory, including an astonishing anal with Mandingo in the original Big Black Beast release. Sasha Grey in particular is not hiding at all, she has always parlayed her porn fame into "mainstream" endeavors. Her Twitch stream has a million subscribers. You could argue she is even more famous and watched now than when she was an active porn performer.
I see more contemporary pornstars have been getting into streaming and keeping their names alive on social media. like Adriana Chechik, Riley Reid, Teanna Trump.

if i remember right she quit right after the mr marcus std outbreak. im sure not wanting to put her kids (at the time just one) health at risk had a big part in it

On a happier note, if I recall, Avy Scott disappeared from the adult film industry once she finished her law degree. Hopefully she's practicing law and doing well in her post-porn life (although we're still left heartbroken). I'd sure love to have her represent and counsel me!
Remember Traci Lords? She got in trouble for lying about her age, requiring millions of VHS tapes to be pulled from the shelves and untold tens of millions of dollars in fines to multiple entities.
