I have only anecdotal evidence, but a couple of friends have wondered the same thing. I'm definitely *not* referring to dancers taking bachelor party gigs and the like. When I mean is, sex shows run professionally and ticketed for the audience who are there to watch a performance. These are privately promoted and held at private venues (at least from what I've seen), naturally. Anyone else seeing this as a trend on the increase?

a) I've never heard of this. And therefore I've never heard of it being on the rise (or fall).

b) Is a live sex show considered porn? Is this a topic for The Porn Pool? Maybe better suited to Sex Talk? Or WN&N?

Everything I've read indicates that live sex shows hit a steady decline in the early 80s and haven't had a resurgence. If they are having a resurgence, you might want to post your sourcing.
That's a good question. In the heyday of adult entertainment in NYC, the two were intertwined, with recognizable NYC adult film stars (and others that weren't adult film stars) performing live sex shows, sometimes during intermissions or between screenings of their own films. If the shows are intertwined with screenings, The Porn Pool would be appropriate. If not, probably Sex Talk.

Sources? You want a Time Magazine article? I'm only joking... but only half. As I said, I only have anecdotes-and by nature, it's 'underground-and a goal in posting was to test that here with amongst the wisdom of fellow porn peeps.

I thought about where to post this. My logic was also that historically and traditionally sex shows and films are intertwined. Arguably the same thing, merely different mediums (media?). But, I will of course defer to mods.

I think that (legality aside) we're at a good point in time for a resurgence of live sex shows. Attitudes are way different, and the few live shows I've come across are inclusive (e.g. not just catering to one gender), somewhat upscale (analogy to elevated comfort food and craft beer versus smoke-filled corner dive), and well put together-performers and production taking pride in what they do.

Anyone else seeing this as potentially nascent?

An anecdote, unless word of mouth, is still sourcing. At this point I would say it isn't since no one has been able to point anything to anything showing it exists now and is rising.

1-Since anecdotal evidence is basically false or unreliable evidence than having a discussion about a subject based only on that is kind of moot because we can't use any real world evidence to push the narrative forward.

2-Since killbill hasn't heard of it and Flash only remembers stuff like that from 30 decades ago than whatever may exist today is so exclusive and underground that it is again a moot point to talk about it because we are more likely to win the lottery or get hit by lighting than actually get invited to one of those sex shows.

P.S: I don't think sex shows are porn anymore than a woman taking her clothes off is porn. It only becomes porn if it's filmed and then you watch it.

Useful replies, at least for me. Survey says, "not a trend". The two shows I've seen (and a couple more than that advertised, all spanning an 18-month period, mostly unrelated to one another in 3 different cities) emanated from the BDSM/kink/cabaret scenes, which I hover around thanks to friends but don't actively participate in.

These varying definitions of porn are interesting.

A live show depicting hardcore activity is pornographic, my definition was more for which forum it belongs in. The Porn Pool generally is for videos (be they for screen or stream).

I'm not going to try to predict the future. But I suspect there's a market for it.
