Ive tried to find out the truth about Linda Lovelace, but the more infos I collect, the more contradictions turn up. L.L. castigated the porn industry in her book. She predicated, that she was forced with a gun to play at D.T. I dont believe this. Nobody plays so easily, if forced with a gun. And if I look at the movie, with several occasions, it would be an easy thing to escape and call the police. It can be, that she was forced emotionally, but I even doubt that. She was in fact exploited, because she only received a fraction of the enormous sums D.T. made. After she resigned from porn, she wrote her famous book. " Porn and organized crime are siamese twins ", she wrote. Looking back to the early 70s, this was in part true. There were many connections between organized crime and porn. But even then it was a grossly exaggeration, that all of porn was financed by crimelords. The Meese Commission was later summoned, conservative feminists were finally popular with their anti-porn campaigns. LL was a sort of saviour for them, but she later declined to speak for them. Later she redrew some of her accusations and entered again the porn business. But as far as I know only softcore, or ? Statements made by LL and facts vary wildly. So I dont know, what the latest status is. Dutch Christan Unionists say, its a scandal, that a porn movie is broadcasted on public TV, where the actress was even forced to take part. The "Inside Deep Throat" docu movie was excellent, but also wasnt able to clear this up. The german newspaper "Welt am Sonntag" wrote years ago, that LL declined interviews. (FBI is now even questioning the age of danish or dutch porn performers who were 18 when they started, and this was checked and re-checked several times here.) .....I heavily doubt, that she was forced. Yes, she was exploited by the conservative feminists too. They tried to put her under pressure and wanted her to tell horrific fairy tales of the porn industry. There a quite a lot of negative facts about the porn industry of the 70s, that could fill a 1000 page book. There is no need to expand this with imaginary tales. [Link]

And neither went on the "I hated porn tour" And Paris using a sex tape to "market" herself and not being cast in a black hole of shame. I think shows a growing acceptance of porn by the mainstream. Remember we're only talking about scandalizing and shaming women for having sex not men. Some male stars have had sex tapes released with no effect on their careers. As a woman, I do not want to see other women abused, and I deal with many in my E-R work. BUT...for every woman I work with who has been abused or raped, there are 2 of them who are using the rape or abuse label to get out of some unpleasent consequence for their behavior. When you read Ordeal, Linda not just talks about her alleged abuse, you will find that it is written in a way to excite and tittilate. She discuses multiple sex acts and the acts of others in a sexy detail. In many ways it is not designed to describe her "Ordeal" but to get readers sexually excited. I agree with the poster who said that Linda used Ordeal and her travelling with religious groups as a carefully crafted plan to continue to make money from her adult career. To me, she comes off no different than the woman in my E-R at 2am on a Saturday night who is claiming "rape" to get out of telling her husband she was out getting some sex on the side. [Link]
