Does anyone know what a charge from a company listed as "Epoch *Gunnstudio" or "Epoch *Gunnstudio Guernsey" would be? It showed up on my credit card a couple of days ago. It isn't my charge, and Visa removed it, but I'm curious if anyone else has seen this specific charge and how they may have accessed my card.
The use of the word "Epoch" in the name was an obvious reason for me to check the biller, Epoch, to see if something had come through there. I have no current memberships billed through them and they had no record of this charge.
By way of background, I have a specific "porn" card. It has a low limit and I keep it locked except for short periods when I'm joining a site. It gets locked again immediately after I join. The window to access this card is narrow.
Most of my memberships bill through billers that I know and trust.
In the couple of days leading up to this charge I took advantage of several Black Friday discounts. These are:
Got Filled - Customercare.co
Deep Lush - CC Bill
Yesgirlz - CC Bill
Nubiles Films - CC Bill
Nubiles Porn - CC Bill
I consider CC Bill to be top-tier and would be surprised if any site using them was the problem. Also, I checked CC Bill and they had no such charge. I contacted Customercare.co and they told me that the only charge they had on record was the fee for Got Filled, and the amount was correct.
I contacted my bank and they said they'd look into it. The charge disappeared not long after that so I suspect they ruled in my favour. That isn't surprising since the history on that card shows repeat charges from companies like CC Bill, Epoch and other common porn billers. This charge from "Epoch *Gunnstudio Guernsey" was not part of my buying history. Also, all the charges on my card ranged from $20 to $40 whereas the disputed charge was for $140, which is a red flag in itself. Finally, the mere use of the word "Guernsey" was probably a red flag too, considering they have lax business laws and are a place that attracts shady operators.
Has anyone encountered this charge before? I Googled it and came up dry.
As for the final outcome, as I said, the charge was removed and I cancelled the card. I have a new porn card on the way.
I realize that some may offer some advice, and I'll appreciate that, but note that Canadian banks don't offer re-loadable credit cards as US banks do. That would be a simple and effective solution. If I could get a CC that has zero balance until I load money on it online, that would be great, but I can't. I can buy a pre-paid card but they have exorbitant fees. The fees on those can eat up your entire balance in a short time. Canadian banks do offer an online debit card that may be a solution - provided I could open a specific porn account. If I had a specific porn account and wanted to join a site that cost $25, I could put money in the account and do the transaction. If any fraudulent arsehole came alone afterwards and tried to charge $140 there wouldn't be any funds.
Any thoughts will be appreciated! Thanks folks!
