I know I should have googled it and all that crap, but bear with me, I'm a sick man. And I've just been financially ripped off for dozens of thousands of dollars and that hurts, so be patient.

I need a pay box supporting POP3 and smpt (that I can use with outlook in a word). A reliable one, it doesn't have to be cheap.

Please share you're knowledge.

Jeff, did you guys get my replies?
At present, I have no way to know if people are actually getting my e-mails.

Would Google's gmail do? It's even free! I'll gladly send you an invitation to it.

Would HotPOP suffice? Click here

You'd have to invest a few minutes in going and reading what they have to say about themselves.

Here are a couple comments from there:

* FREE POP Mail Access - Read your mail with your favorite program.

* Free SMTP Access - Send mail directly from your favorite client.

* No Popups - We use no pop-ups, not even for free accounts.

Some time has passed since I last tried it with an email client, so I'm a bit fuzzy on the details now. But I remember some problem with using HotPOP with Eudora. The problem was not HotPOP's. It was my isp. They were blocking some port I think, that Eudora and/or HotPOP wanted to use for SMTP. I guess it was my isp's attempt at doing their part to hinder spammers.
I thought I would mention this, in case you try it and run into similar problems.

I remember that for sending email, I could use www.mail2web.com with HotPOP.

My only complaint about hotpop.com is that it seems to be popular with many online fraudsters -- especially at places like eBay and with spamming & email scams.

I reported two such faked addresses to eBay this morning -- someone had hijacked two eBay accounts and changed the contact info to hotpop addresses. They were selling non-existent Nikon D200 cameras at a $500 discount. (The camera went on sale yesterday for $1700.)

Are you getting one? I'd be interested in your comments. I'm considering purchasing one sometime next year, currently have a D1X, F4 and quite a few Nikkors (AFs and non AFs).

Yes, I'm getting a D200 body, probably March/April time frame. They're rare as hen's teeth at the moment. It will probably be late February / early March before they are in plentiful supply.

The D200 covers about 95% of the features of the D2X at far less than half the price. (It even meters with all AIS, AI & AI'd manual lenses!) I simply can't justify the US$5K for the D2X body, but US$1.7K for the D200 is a bargain.

Along with hotmail.com, gmail, yahoo, and any other free email service.

I don't know how badly gmail has been abused -- I love it thus far (I've been using it exclusively for about 10 months now and got my 1st gmail account almost 2 years ago). In terms of incoming spam, I'm averaging about 1 per month on my 2-y/o 'gaysatyr' account and about 3 per month on the account I use to sign up for random stuff online (like newspaper access or forums where I don't care about contact).

My supposedly spam-protected email account at earthlink was getting anywhere from 800 to 2000 spam messages per day at the point where I finally gave up.

I'm sure there is abuse of the gmail accounts; however, Google has made it clear in several messages I've seen posted that abuses will result in termination. I hope that they actually do make an effort to police their email accounts. They seem to have the best online service out there.

And you can only get a Gmail account when an existing user invites you, that should slow down the random signups by spammers other free services have to cope with.

Dude! :-(
I would think any ISP could give you that... doesn't Yahoo or Goggle offer POP3 access?

My brief Google research shows

Look at Messaging Engine:

Last one I got was introducting you to Don, our new data guy a few weeks back... ?
As long as you didn't send me anything recently, I'm getting your mails. However, I know Don was curious, since he hasn't heard from you.
