Hey, how's it going,
Over at SetGo, they posted an on-set report from a new Sin City video. A large portion of it was just an interview with Jezebelle Bond. At some point, Bond says, "It sucks because that's what most people think you are about all the time. I like having fans but I am the president of a fan club I would never want to be a part of. Some are creepy but you get cool ones who give you things like digital cameras and such."
How prevelent is this feeling among female pornstars? I know this is a ridiculous question to ask considering that the only people who post here who are qualified to answer it are Tricia, Jewel, Tina, and any other female pornstar (current or former) who happens upon here. However, Jezebelle seems to be maintaing an odd balance of sheer disdain accompanied with slight gratitude toward her fans. I know when I was in contact with Taylor St. Claire, at some point I questioned the Extreme films she was making and she very politely told me that she was sorry I didn't like them but she realized that not everyone was going to like what she did. If she worried about what her fans thought, then she truly wouldn't be able to make any decisions at all in regards to her career without upsetting anyone and no performer can think like that. So, she acknowledged the importance of her fans while also acknowledging that she did what she wanted to do and not necessarily what her fans wanted to do. That is a very independant way of thinking and I can respect and admire that now, although I didn't then. Also, I read an interview with Felicia Fox where she sort of echoed those same sentiments, noting that she invites people to come along for the ride but won't let them stop her.
However, Jezebelle seems to wish that people would just send her stuff she could use or otherwise leave her alone. And I am very aware of the unwritten theory that female pornstars largely do not like their fans. That has been lightly debated here in previous threads, in which I read MLyons noting the active involvement between fans and performers at conventions as a counterpoint.
You can argue that if the girls don't do what the fans want to see then they will stop being supported and stop being hired. However, if the majority of the fans got what they wanted (not speaking for all of the fans here, merely going off the undeniable high sales of such product), then all of these girls would be popping up in the hardest material they could find and doing anal after anal. And that is not the best thing for all girls.
As fans, we are consumers and without us porn is absolutely nothing. However, these girls do not necessarily have to follow their fans whims. It is not like they are paid in a percentage of the product's gross, which would be an interesting development. They have so much shit to go through, I am just left wondering how much thought they give to their fans if any. Would they all rather we start praising Lexington Steele more or directors more or producers more and just leave them alone? I am guessing that Jezebelle definitely does not speak for the group. Actually, I am hoping she does not.
PS...I say there, it really would be damn interesting if girls started taking slight paycuts in exchange for a percentage of the profit. This would definitely be an unheard of incinitive to induce the best possible scene from them, but this could never exist because such a girl would have to probably be very career-minded and so many girls make a scene here or there for a quick buck that only the few would think otherwise. That's just my opinion.
