PPV Series Asks 'Can You Be a Porn Star?'

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - This afternoon's sign of the apocalypse: A candidate for governor of California goes from losing the election to hosting a pay-per-view special titled "Can You Be a Porn Star?"
For adult film star Mary Carey, it's just an example of moving on up.
New York-based Silhouette Productions announced on Monday (Nov. 3) that production is underway on a seven-part reality series to air on iN DEMAND Networks and other pay-per-view channels starting on Thursday, Jan. 8. Episodes will run every other Thursday, "climaxing" (in the press release's words) in a 90-minute grand finale.
Silhouette claims that "Can You Be a Porn Star?" is "natural evolution of MTV's 'Real World,' 'Paradise Hotel' and "Temptation Island'" and viewers of those tawdry nonfiction programs would be hard pressed to argue.
After receiving thousands of submissions through audition tapes and live interviews in New York, Washington, D.C., Miami, Chicago, Houston, Denver, Las Vegas, Portland and Seattle, a pool of 28 finalists was composed. Each week, four of the women will move into a house in Los Angeles where they will undergo a series of interviews, photo shoots, challenges and surprises. A panel of adult entertainment professionals will judge the candidates in categories including imagination, initiative, experimentation and enthusiasm.
The show will be highly interactive. At the end of each episode, viewers will be able to vote on their favorites at the show's web site, where audition tapes and behind-the-scenes footage will be available as well. Viewers will help narrow the field from 28 down to eight finalists.
The eventual winner will receive an initial one-year contract with a major adult video distributor and a cash prize of $100,000. Silhouette boasts that the prize is the largest ever offered in the adult industry to a new talent.
Joining former gubernatorial candidate Carey as host will be Tabitha Stevens. Industry legend Ginger Lynn will also be on hand to give her expert opinions on the proceedings.
"The last stigma today for audiences isn't renting adult films, it's admitting it, and this series offers viewers a fun, behind-the-scenes look at the star-making process in a multi-billion dollar industry," says Harry Feingold, Silhouette's chief executive officer. "We think 'Can You Be A Porn Star?' will become an enjoyable, addictive series not just for men, but for wives and girlfriends who enjoy both reality TV and adult entertainment."
