| myk Member 367 Posts 10/02 | hey there, So there was another thread where this came up. i am running the Mac OS 10.5.2 on a dell Inspiron 530. Its a pretty basic set-up I got as a refurb for a bit over 200 USD. With the appropriate drivers, i can get most of the systems to work. USB is fine. Onboard video is OK, but single resolution unaccelerated. Sound works. Onboard networking does not, but I use a PCI card and it works fine. Because of the onboard video limitations, I am using a 8800 PCIE video card that runs fine with the MAC drivers. One good thing is I have the Mac Os installed on a separate drive, so I can go back to vista by changing the boot drive in bios. There are more elegant workarounds but this is straightforward. I use this machine as my main box at home. If you don't know how to work with drivers and are afraid to peek under the hood of your OS, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. You can really screw things up. Apple does not want you to use their OS on a dell. They will not help you. They make things hard on purpose. You can get more data on how to do this at Insanelymac.com. If you do it, you should buy a copy of OSX so you are not pirating the software. Myk [Link] |
