Hustler was founded on brown and pink, but I wouldn't call it hardcore. That is the main difference, in my opinion. It's a little naughtier than the other 2, with the overall quality being about the same as Penthouse, which in my opinion is miles below Playboy. Are any of the Private magazines widely distributed in the US? They do some really top class shoots. I've never seen any US hardcore mags, so I can't really compare. [Link]

As for the Private mags, the are top, top class, very hardcore and very good looking girls, the page size is half of a normal mag (if that matters). The earlier ones are pretty ropey scanned jpgs, but the last couple of years are PDF files straight from their DTP software and very high quality. I downloaded their entire archive, all issues of Private, Pirate, XXX, Sex, and all special editions from the 60s up until a few months ago, for the cost of a month's membership. Bargain! [Link]

I don't buy them regularly, and have not for many years, but I picked up a few a year or so ago, and there seems to be many many more ads in them, and much of the photography appears to be trying way too hard to be "arty". How did you download all those mags? Was it photoset-by-photoset, or issue-by-issue, or were you able to just download them in massive chunks? I've been doing that since I was 20 And even then, people like me who don't mind going to Adult Stores end up buying mags that have had pages ripped out, stickers put over some of the pics and DVDs that occasionally are heavily edited by the importer. The facials were thankfully untouched, though. Be glad, at least you can legally rent porn. (and for the prices in the shops, I can't see why anyone would buy!) There are three very clean, customer (if not indeed couples) friendly stores in that part of town now. The prices are tolerable for journals as well as DVD's. Obviously, journal subscriptions by mail are always a lot cheaper than shop prices (but that is the same for any type of material), and there's some (though not always a lot of) money to be saved on DVD's on the internet. However, for the chance to browse through many products which you can buy and take home there and then, there's not a lot wrong with it. That area as a whole is busy and popular, with residents and workers, as well as tourists. But it is my perception that this simply makes it a nicer and safer place to be, rather than reflected in rip off prices which is what the 'touristy' label sometime connotes. It is true that there are still some less salubrious joints, but they are quite easy to spot a mile off and with (a) the R18 classification and (b) internet shops, these joints offer no benefit whatsoever. We have to send 1 magazine to New Zealand with stickers on for the government to approve it, then we sticker the rest of the order for the New Zealand distributor.
