I was thinking of breaking down gay DVD recommendations into premium titles and uh, 'affordable' titles (wrong word but you know what I mean.) First - should I break it down differently (like maybe twinks - burly men  )? Second - which titles would you put under those categories? Thanks in advance!  [Link] |

Steph, this is an excellent idea. It's bit difficult to decide what's the best way to break it down. Mostly because gay DVDs are still in its infancy stage. Enormous amount of quality DVDs are not being transfered yet. Majority that are out now are not that good.
How about High Quality (Premium) + High Priced; High Quality + Medium Priced; Medium Quality + Low Priced.
Certainly there are lots of them are Low Quality + Low Priced and Low Quality + medium priced. What the recommendation does is to let people avoid these titles.
I am not sure right now there are enough twinkie titles available on DVD. But you may not be aware that in recent two years, a lot of gay titles are either made by European producers such as Cadro from Czech, Herve Handsome from Czech, Cazzo from Germany, Dolphine from Russia, Lucas Kazan from Italy and Sevp from Sweden, or American producers are more and more reaching out to get very sexy and hunky East European models on the movie. Most of them are of high quality. Supprisingly, they got released in DVD in faster pace than those homemade ones. So making a "Foriegn (European)" category makes sense.
The following is my recommended list and you can group them as you see fit:

Kens idea sounds pretty good....but whatever you decide keep it simple.....it could get confusing.......

thank you so much - that's perfect. i think with a lot of first time purchases people have a finite amount of money they want to spend - so those three categories are great.

Ken's list is larger than mine--he has seen many more titles than I have so far--but all of my recommended titles are already on his list.
I'd heartily recommend ALL the Bjorn titles, but I'd pick "Comrade In Arms" and "Vampire of Budapest" as my favorites so far. Your results may vary!
I've also loved all of the Atomic releases I've seen, though I've given a couple of them somewhat mixed reviews.
I think "Idol Country" is a great mid-priced release, and "Gentle Gents" is still my favorite cheapie/compilation disc...[Link] |

you guys are the best. i've been looking through the whole forum - so much great info. i've compiled it all and am about to build the page.
after i build the basic recommendations page - i will add in links to reviews and all the minireviews in the forum.
i have to admit it's a lot more fun for me to look through covers with hot guys on 'em than the straight covers with chicks [Link] |

Please let me know if there is anything you think I should change/add. The titles link to the price search results unless none of our price search stores carry it. In that case they link to DVD Empire (though since we're about to add empire to our price search I will change the links when we do.)
I will be adding links to reviews next to the title instead of down the side. At at some point we will automate it so that the current lowest price appears next to the title.

Steph, really great job! thanks for the hard work. I really like the layout, especially the future gaydvdtalk page. I believe everyone of us with gay preference shall feel grateful for your effort to bring such a significant gay presence in this forum.
Do you have any statistics showing how many people visit this gaydvd forum and how many bought dvds through this channel? I really think there should be a big market out there for gay titles. Before I was aware of this site, I visited a lot of other sites where they sell gay dvds. The price over there are normally very inflated and expensive. This site is indeed The Best place to shop gay adult dvds. It's just a matter of how we get the words out to people who are really into gay dvds.
So, anything we can do to help bring more people in for bargain search, let us know.

There is still a link on the main forum page to ADT and one on the online store reviews page.
Surprisingly, we found that there is very little overlap in traffic between the two sites. Many people surf DVD Talk from work during the day and the presence of 'adult' links could be a source of problems for some members of the community. The best thing to do was to cut back the number of links to ADT to a minimum.[Link] |

ken - thanks, it's really just the beginning. the market is still very small. i can check sales through some of our retail partners. sales of gay titles are about 5-10% of our total sales. i'll check into what percent of overall price searches are gay titles.
we're getting a lot of traffic to gay dvd talk (even though it's barely a site.) i don't know how much we get to this particular forum. when we get the new forum software we'll have better stats for this part of the site.
as soon as we add a couple features to gay dvd talk i'll start promoting it more heavily. since there is almost no information on gay dvds out there it shouldn't be hard to garner attention.
the best thing you guys can do is tell your friends online and offline. all the reviews everyone wrote are a big help too. we bought the domain name gay dvd reviews.com last night.[Link] |
