Well, you could call it personal this time. Tom started working in the biz at the time little Walter Burns (and little can pretty much be taken literally here) started watching porn. You can almost say that we both grew up together, with Tom being the older brother. As I grew older, I saw Tom growing older with me, from the young, nerdy type from his early career, to the long haired rocker- surfer middle period, till the established and experienced Icon he is now. Just look at the number of movies I have seen with Tom in it, to understand what I am getting at and I didn't even seek any of them out because he was in them. If Tom Byron was seemingly such an important part of my porn past, why wait so long to make him the performer of the week? Well, I was waiting till I found a decent enough picture of Tom in the earlier stage of his career. Why? Well, again, it is personal. Remember, I was really young when I started watching porn, younger than Traci Lords was when she started making them. Back then I was too shy and inexperienced to get real live pussy (this situation hasn't improved much, but that is another story). And then, there was Tom Byron. He hardly seemed much older than me. And he often looked every bit as nerdy. And guess what. Hey, it gave me hope. If he could do it, why not me? Don't misunderstand, there was no kind of identification here. And afterwards, I was thinking that the next door lady, the girl who sat behind me in class, my math teacher (who was really hot ? she was a blonde of maybe 25 years, damn she smelled nice), and ... maybe weren't so far out of reach after all. Of course I was wrong, but that didn't matter much as I was a true romantic dreamer back then. And look what I have become now: a jaded, know-it-all cynic. If I could turn back the clock... He never (except maybe for a little while in his long haired phase ) had an attitude, he just seemed like a lucky guy, having fun. And was hugely influential circa 1996 in being one of the originators of the trend of male performers also becoming directors. Before that, well, Rocco did it, but mostly, actors and directors were separate people.
