I don't know if this subject has been discussed before, if it has please forgive me. I would like to know why male stars are rarely if ever shown on movie covers? I can honestly say I choose my movie by the male star who is in the movie. I understand traditionally the majority of consumers who buy porn are men and marketing is directed towards them, but today is a new day and more women than ever are watching porn, thanks to stars like Julian, Evan Stone, and Nick Manning.

I'm with you, but I don't think that's something we'll see very often. I figure that men on covers, particularly attractive men, don't attract enough female consumers to compensate for the number of male consumers they deter. Plus, most porn studs look comical in still photographs. I think many a potential female customer would simply laugh at the "Oh face" of even a good-looking man, and walk right on by.

I do think their names should be at least listed on the cover, though.

Yeah at the very least their names.
I liked the Erection Services cover. Then again I would like a milk carton if Julian was on it.

This cover?

I like it too.

This company went out business already, by the way. I think they may have had 2 or 3 releases before they went belly-up.

In the 90s I'd see the main couple on boxcovers. I didn't mind, it was cool.

I believe another member summed it up here once with a nice analogy. It went something like this: men bring the penis to porn. The penis is like the basketball at a basketball game. The basketball is necessary to play the game, but nobody comes to watch the basketball. Of course, this is from the heterosexual male perspective, but afterall, that's gotta be 90 something percent of the porn market.

See to me there is only one reason to watch the game and that is definitely the basketball. I dont know about 90%. I would say out of 20 of my friends 18 watch and the other two wont admit they watch.

I don't like that cover, judging by the pic you could think it's a gay movie.

I wouldn't mind guys on the cover of DVDs just as long as the girls are the ones who are most appearant.

I agree. Porn is, and probably will for the forseeable future, be aimed at the male buyer, who usually doesn't care much about who's supplying the wood. It might not catch someone's eye in the video shop - and if it did, it might not be for the right reasons.

Maybe if you see a larger version of it. In my opinion there is no way you could mistake this cover for anything but what it is.

Since I dont know what "dropping fucking loads" means I am going to assume it is something good and that you too like Nick Manning.

I would even settle for just having the male cast listed.

I don't like seeing unattractive males in porn, so it's important to me to see everyone in the cast listed.

I don't know if guys on the cover would deter men from buying/renting a movie.
I think the problem is that it doesn't get their attention enough to check out the cast list and box.
How do you get the attention of guys when each box has essentially the same cast list and title that tells of the content? If the cover means that guys will spend more time checking out the pictures on the back, buisness is potentially gained.

Business conduct is decided by what sells. Vote w/ your dollars.

I'd also have to think that someone at some of these companies would highly value women's input regarding porn, so maybe writing in requests would carry a bit of weight... most likely more than if I, a guy, wrote in... I mean, porn for men, NO PROBLEM, its EZ, porn for women... intense research still being done! That area really seems to be the living incarnation of balancing an art against a science.

BUT as a guy I DO check out certain movies if a certain guy is on the cover... like, if Shane Diesel, Biggz, Maxx Blacc, ManDingo, BOZ, Slayer or any of those guys with a HUGE cock is on the cover, I rent it w/o even looking at the back cover. I dont care how handsome or lovely a dude looks, but if I know I am gonna see something HUGE go into a SMALL hole and competly disappear... Im gonna be stoked! haha

I'm glad you're back to your Simpsons Magic Johnson avatar, Rey. I love that one.

I think that if a male star has a following, then his face and name should be featured somewhere on the cover. Personally, I've never rented or purchased a video based on the cover images. I do my research online first, then go to the store with a few options in mind. I think that's the best tactic.

I don't have the movie that Soadfan posted, but I own another one by the same company, and Julian's featured prominently on the cover of that one too. I hated the movie. Yeah, the camera lingered on the male talent, but the sex was boring as shit, and I didn't find the female talent attractive. Not only does every woman have a different idea of what's sexy, but her preferences can change from day to day, just like it is for men. I don't think there's any single concept that would appeal to an entire gender.
