Okay, so I spaced and mostly missed March. So for March/April since the resurgence of parodies, so we aren't talking about the old ones just the new ones since roughly Not the Bradys: XXX by Will Ryder, which have been the best in your opinion and the worst and why? Edited by - flash on May 10 2013
Hmmm.... I don't think I've seen any recent parodies that I genuinely liked. I thought that the X FILES parody was technically well made but not terribly interesting as a movie. Although it's not actually a 'parody,' I really love Nic Andrews' XXX remake of Fincher's THE GAME, titled NO LIMITS. And although Flash said to focus on new titles, I've still gotta recommend two of the finest hardcore parodies ever produced (both 70's, of course): Beau Buchanan's CAPTAIN LUST AND THE PIRATE WOMEN (based on The Count of Monte Cristo) and 'Dominic Bolla's' marvelous ANGEL ABOVE, THE DEVIL BELOW (based on The Exorcist). Note that the release of CL&TPW from Arrow was an unauthorized release. Buchanan is the copyright holder and there is talk of re-issuing the film not only uncut (as the Arrow version was missing around a minute of rape/violence) but restored from the original camera negative. I think No Limits would qualify as many of the parodies are remakes. Glad to hear that Captain Lust and the Pirate Women may be coming out in a better edition. I waited forever for that title to come out and was massively disappointed by the Arrow release. Odd that it was unauthorized as prior to it coming out there were articles one of which I would swear talked about Arrow working with Buchanan. Unfortunately I can't check again as the articles are all removed now.
Hmm. I don't much like the modern parodies either, but as far as they go I liked BATMAN and I kinda liked BEWITCHED. Oh, wait, never mind, I loved ROCKY WHORE. That was great. I also *love* REVENGE OF THE PETITES which is a parody of 80s teen movies, and is actually genuinely funny. Of the oldies, I think THE BUDDING OF BRIE (a "parody" of ALL ABOUT EVE if we are to use the term "parody" rather broadly...it's more of an adaptation). There's always my beloved TAKE OFF, too. :)
I've only seen two parodies: "Not The Bradys" and "Rocki Whore Picture Show". But I think both are really good, as both of them capture the spirit of the original movies/TV shows.
My favorite is Batman XXX, the one based on the campy classic show, because the sex was very hot, even for Vivid, and there were so many gags, plus Tori Black as Catwoman. Rocki Whore Picture Show is up there. They got the right people in the right roles, some hot sex, an appreciation of the original material and shout-outs for the cult-like fans. Top Guns was Digital Playgrounnd's best. With its rather large budget, it made the rounds as a great homage to the original. I actually really liked the Scooby Doo parody from Eddie Powell and New Sensations but that is probably due to some damn continuity of character, which, if absent, is the biggest drawback in these and most features. And more on the homage side, The Official Silence of the Lambs Parody hit on most notes. Who knew Kagney Linn Karter could mimic Jodie Foster so well? There needs to be more parodies of horror movies. The worst would probably include Jaws XXX and The Dark Knight parody. The Dark Knight XXX was just an all-around failure. Nothing was explained, no special gags, and it seems the budget wasn't up to standard. Jaws was just lame. Was there even a shark? I don't remember.
the hangover parody was hilarious. I typically don't like parodies that take themselves too seriously (axel braun...) and prefer the ones that are funny.
Hopefully nobody ever took our X-Play parodies too seriously. We took making them very seriously and we wanted every detail to be as spot-on as our skill level would allow but we never lost the point that what we were ultimately doing was goofy and silly. The point was to bring classic TV into the porn world and make a few people laugh along the way and I'm pretty sure we did that and still continue to do that. For those that are anti-parody there is nothing we could ever do to please those folks so we didn't try. What pissed me off along the way was a number of companies 'phoning it in' that is going for the fast buck and making an inferior product with a glossy box sleeve in an attempt to confuse the customer. Some companies still do that with ads that cost more than the movie production itself. I had a conversation at AEE in Vegas and one company owner said to my face and I quote, "I don't give a shit about the movie I just want to make sales." I can honestly say I hated that guy immediately. With all of the attacks on the porn production industry it is amazing that we as an industry can still make quality porn movies of any type and 'quality' takes time and time equals money of which there is just not enough coming back lately. We will continue to make as high a quality product for as long as we economically can. We just wrapped Love Boat XXX for Adam & Eve Pictures and that is going to to funny and nicely shot and quite possibly one of our best yet. My favorites from movies that I did not direct: Superman from Axel Braun (I have a non-sex role in that one) and Star Trek XXX and This Ain't Cops.
My favorites from the Will Ryder catalog: Flight Attendants, Not the Bradys XXX #3: Pussy Power, Not Married with Children XXX, Not the Cosbys XXX, Flintstones XXX, Beverly Hillbillies XXX, Not Animal House XXX and Rocky XXX. Not the Bradys XXX is a benchmark in porn history and for that I am quite amazed and quite proud of. Without that movie it is certainly possible the recent porn parody revolution never comes.
