First I'd like to thank Yogagrrl and Flash for their fair and honest review of our film. I'm both pleased with the praise, and nodding my head in agreement at the critisism. I'm eager to get another project in the hopper so I can both build on what worked, and fix or change the things that didn't. Believe me when I say your critisism is as valued as your praise.

I would like to address some of the questions that have come to me, some raised by the reviews, others in e-mail.

Q: In the spooning scene was Marie's orgasm authentic?

A: As far as I know, absolutely. I was there and I certainly thought she was having an orgasm. I also thought she had another quieter orgasm while Jack was going down on her.

Q: How much was cut from the choose-your-own-camera part?

A: Their entire session lasted about 17 minutes. The multi-angle segment is about 16 minutes. I cut about a minute of footage where footage from neither camera was watchable. Sync is maintained between both cameras throughout the presentation.

Q: Did you give any direction or instructions?

A: If I thought I could get what I want with stop and start style of shooting, I'd do it that way.I have no problem with giving direction or instructions, if I think giving instructions is going to help me get what I want. In six years of shooting couples sex scenes, I've rarely found it helps and often hurts. No direction was given before or durning Marie and Jack's scene.

Q: What's with the DVD-R?

A: We are no longer offering DVD-R. Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story is now available on high-quality replicated DVD packaged in an amary case

Q: Are there more films in the works.

A: The answer is a provisional yes. Finding couples for our work is substaintially more difficult than finding women who will do DAP. Without the right combination of looks, personality and chemistry, we don't shoot.

We are currently in pre-production on a 20something straight "vanilla" project, a 30something straight hardcore BDSM/GB project, a 40something straight GB project, and a 30something gay vanilla project. When there's more to say than that, you can be sure I'll be making some noise on ADT.

Thanks again to Flash, Yogagrrl, and the people who have already ordered a copy of Marie and Jack. Your support has helped move us that much closer to our next release.

Regards,

T.C.

The price of the DVD is approx $25.

YogaGrrl says it is worh $20.

Flash says $13.50.

It is intriguing enough from reading the reviews that I want to see it, and decide for myself how much I think it is worth.

But with one sex scene, and a runtime of under 30 minutes, I am skeptical.

Ah yes, the unfortunately realities of economies of scale. You pay more for a custom tailored suit than for a something off the rack at Paul Stewart. It all depends on what you want, what you need, and what you can afford.

I hope that if Marie and Jack can be brought a wider audience, we'll be able to see the price come down. I think YG's twenty bucks is about right. Any less and there's no economic incentive for me to make more films, but I'm not sure I'd let that stop me.

Of course sophisticated shoppers already know where to get Marie and Jack for $14.95

For anyone who's curious, my estimate of a fair price for Marie and Jack was based largely on its uniqueness. It is completely unlike any of the other 150 or so other movies I've seen to date (not a large number, but I have tried to sample widely from a variety of studios and genres). If I had actually bought this disc (rather than receiving a screener for the purposes of review), I would've felt fine about paying $20 based on the relative rareness of this level of intimacy. Only you can decide if it's worth that much to you.

I do think the DVD-R format is problematic for retailing. But my copy of Marie and Jack did play perfectly and looked great even on my finicky Apple DVD Player. Whereas I've had at least a couple of dozen pressed DVDs from big studios which have not worked well at all.

I tend to rate discs on the low side for the worth as I hate to pay a lot for my discs. The $13.50 is based on the run time more than a lack of quality to the contents. As YogaGrrl stated though, it is a unique film, I've reviewed 217 titles here (2 are currently in the que) and none have them have been like Marie and Jack.

As for the disc being a DVD-R, it played fine for me on a Panasonic S35 and on my DVD-ROM (which rejects about half of the DVD-R's that VCX is currently putting out). I didn't use the disc in my JVC XV-511 since that can't handle DVD-R's, of any type. So as long as your player can handle DVD-R's I wouldn't expect you'd have a problem.

That's a catch-22. You are probably losing sales and losing customers because it's a DVD-R. Replacing it with a VHS is not a solution for anyone. Many of us don't even have VCRs.

Do you make clear on your site that it's a DVD-R? At a quick glance I couldn't find that info (though as a shopper I would click the links to read the reviews and find it out - other shoppers won't necessarily do that.)

We have had good luck test marketing other 'ligit' titles with DVD-R. Some have never made it to the point of justifying replication, but have been worthwhile on DVD-R. Others have been slow to catch fire, and never would have found their way to replication without DVD-R. We've never made an issue of DVD-R vs. DVD because we've never had a return, or even an inquiry. In fact, DVD-R or DVD, we've never had single disc returned.

I am only just now realizing what a bad reputation DVD-R has in the porn world. This is a pity.Quality DVD-R duplication is much less error prone than discount DVD replication. (I've got half a dozen high profile gonzo titles that ALL have obvious authoring and/or replication problems.)

I suppose there's no reason to expect the "average" pornographer would be any more loving with his duplication than he is with his production and post-production. I'd have to guess most porn DVD-Rs are burned on the cheapest media the producer can find -- why give the customer a nickle more value than you have to? As usual, my production practices are wildly out of step with the standards of the industry

Okay, I just finished watching M&J, and I can't help but recommend it also! Yes, it's short, but it's worth every penny! This is easily one of the most passionate movies I've seen, and I think it deserves every compliment you've heard about it!

It's special. Intimate, engaging, positive and dare I say tasteful .

My wife despises everything hardcore I've ever shown her, and she liked it a lot .

It's not stroke material, but that's not what it was made for. It portrays the physical act of sex as the healthy expression of well-adjusted, mature adult sexuality.

Wait, I don't want to waste too much verbiage -- I'm getting around to a review, my first.

Thanks again, TC, for making it. I'm looking forward to more from you!

For couples, and those of us who have dark jaded souls and black little hearts, it's ... NICE! OK, OK, save it for the review, forthcoming.

I genuinely wonder if TonyC agrees with that.

I have many more questions about this video (video, right?), but I won't ask them now. I haven't seen it, so it is pointless to ask questions at this point. I don't have enough data yet to do so.

Subjective, WB! I should know better than to make blanket statements like that, by now.

May I qualify it, then, by saying I doubt Ramsey or RonK would call it "strokably delicious", but I could be horribly wrong.

If you'll pardon the cheesy analogy, I think the non-interactive part of the dics (the 28 minute film) is more like foreplay. It's very arousing and very explicit, but carefully backs off at just the right moments to keep you on edge. I know from the feedback we get that couples find it an excellent prelude to sex (hense the foreplay comparrison).

There's also anecdotal evidence that the interactive "chose-your-own-camera-angle" presentations are extremely strokable. More than one person has told me they had to learn to use the remote with their non-dominant hand!

...then there's the fact that we ran out of time watching it and never actually got to the interactive part.

So, until I have all the info, I'll just SHUSH .

I wasn't going to post a review until I'd had a chance to appreciate the full product, anyway, so blathering on about it NOW is just silly. It's just still fresh in my mind since I just watched it Saturday and was so pleasantly surprised.

Now, I'm itching to do the interactive interactively, with Mrs. 60 working the controls! It may be a few more days, then...**SIGH**

How I suffer for my art!

That is pretty much the way I watch all my porn, the good and the bad.
If it is good, my dominant hand is more active than my non-dominant hand. If it is bad, my non-dominant hand is more active. Maybe this could lead to a 'scientific' way to quantify 'subjective judgements' into 'objective statistical figures'.
(That are A LOT of inverted commas, Walter. Are you sure of yourself?)
That was not at all what I had in mind. There is something else entirely at stake here. Well, not entirely, since the subjective nature of spectatorship versus the rhetorical effectiveness of the author is at the center of what I was interested in.
Hmmm... OK, never mind.

I just read Astroknight's review of Marie and Jack and I couldn't be more pleased. When you make a film you have an idea of what you want to say to your audience, but you never quite know if you're gettingit right until you start to get thoughtful feedback. I'm starting to feel like I'm on the right track!

Based on feed back from ADT and other places, we've made a few refinements to the Marie and Jack DVD.

The small audio glitch referred to in Yogagrrl's review has been fixed. Luckily only 2 or 3 such discs went out the door.

The audio for the film has been remastered. You can now choose between Dolby stereo or Dolby surround.

The audio for the interactive features has be remastered in Dolby stereo.

To faciliate skimming, 16 chapter stop, based on "plot-points" have been added to the film.

To facilitate skimming, 16 chapter stops, placed at 1 minute intervals, have been added to both versions of the interactive feature.

The time code/time search function has been enabled for the entire disc.

The full-priced version is now packaged in an amarary case with full-color insert.

UPDATE:

Thanks to the support of ADT and others, Marie and Jack: A Hardcore Love Story has gathered enough momentum that we are now offering it on high-quality replicated DVD, packaged in an amary case with full-color insert.

Through the end of the year Comstock films is running an ADT only Holiday Special which you are free to regard as either a Christmas present, or a cheep ploy to boast sales.

Season's Greetings,

T.C.
