I found online a gray copy (DVD-R) of the Mitchell Bros' late 70's SM documentary Beyond De Sade / Never A Tender Moment - I'm assuming that both titles refer to the same movie, am I wrong ? - starring Marilyn Chambers and featuring a young Erica Boyer. Since most of the action include S/M, I can understand that an official rerelease on DVD would be "risqué" (ie too many scenes to cut from the original material to make a dvd with a "standard" running time), but are there other reasons that explain its hard to find status (rights etc..). Every Marilyn fan needs a dvd release of that obscure, post-"Rabid", pre-"Insatiable", film.
Yes they appear to be two different names that the same title was released under. I know of no rights issues that would prevent Mitchell Brothers Film Group from releasing the title but the fisting might hold them back. Also Mitchell Brothers are notoriously slow at releasing their titles on DVD. Over the years they have managed to only do five releases so far leaving titles that are readily available on VHS still unavailable on disc. I'm not sure what their slowdown is. Overall their titles look great on DVD with the exception of Behind the Green Door: The Sequel, which looks horrible. The box design is different from the rest as well. They may not have the money to restore everything at once so they may be doing them one at a time as each one pays for the next and The Sequel may have been an attempt to outsource which didn't work. I expect that any official release is a ways off, if ever coming.
Wow, consider yourself very lucky. I"m a huge Mitchell Brothers fan and that would be a must-see for me. Mitchell Brothers Film Group absolutely is slow releasing their films on DVD (I'm still waiting for "Inside Marilyn Chambers"), but all of their DVD's I have seen were very good qualiy and had the original trailers, which I thought were awesome. "The Grafenberg Spot" especially looks great. I have heard that "Behind the Green Door, the Sequel" was not actually released on DVD by the Mitchell Brothers Film Group, though, and from all reports, my VHS copy appears to be in better shape. As a sidenote, I found that the Mitchell's "Flesh Factory" is available from SureLuck Archives for $37. Kind of pricy, but I'm sure I will get it eventually.
Someone on Ebay is selling "Beyond DeSade" and "Never a Tender Moment" on VHS as two seperate movies. Maybe they are just different edits of the same film.
Since my dvd-r version of Beyond DeSade/Never A Tender Moment is obviously a bootleg, I'm not sure I can post any link to the website, but I advise you not to spend too much money for an alternate bootleg (from ebay or else..). I got my copy for $6.95 !
I'm not buying anything that has been edited and if this person on Ebay has a copy with the fisting still in the film then I'll buy it and put it on DVD myself. I think removing content like that is more of a crime than our government says it is to view and/or own it.
I agree. I hope everybody else on this board does as well.
By the way, I just watched the dvd again : the first half (25 minutes) is entitled Never A Tender Moment and the 2nd half is Beyond De Sade , it seems there were originally 2 30-minute documentaries. Oh and it goes without saying that my dvd-r version has the fisting, and other bondage w/ penetration stuff included. Copyright "Cinema 7, Inc" 1979.
I undestand what Flash is saying here, but this is what it's all about. this is why there are collectors out there and why it shouldn't be so difficult to find a great piece of movie making.
As a classic collector I hear what you are saying. I wish I could find every classic in it's original form with ease. As a mod here though I don't want this thread to become nothing but YGM entries. At first Wodgers had problems with his e-mail links. I'm hoping by now they are fixed. At this point lets keep this thread on the film itself, not the questionable DVD releases.

Plus, there's this "Beyond De Sade"/"Never a Tender Moment". Did Marilyn Chambers basically make just these films for the Mitchell brothers and then then next adult film she made was "Insatiable" in 1980?
She made Behind the Green Door and Resurrection of Eve. Inside Marilyn Chambers is a collection of scenes from the previous films, some deleted, with interview footage if I remember correctly. Then nothing until around the time of Insatiable, when she also did Never a Tender Moment and Up 'N Coming.
could you imagine seeing her in a film like Never a Tender Moment after she made her comeback! yes, it would have been really tamed down, but damn sure something to see.
