Suddenly he finds himself afflicted with a constant erection and an insatiable appetite. There are some very interesting scenes in the film but it felt very incoherent to me. It has moments of outright slapstick - and is clearly set up as a comedy - but also contains some very debauched scenes. One of the encounters between Leslie and Money starts off with them eating dinner and quickly escalates into a frenzied session involving the food itself. The climactic orgy also involves the participants smearing themselves with aphrodisiac-laden food. I should point out that I've only seen this once and should probably watch it again. There might be some rationale to the seemingly awkward juxtaposition of comedy and morbidity (I'm referring particularly to the final scenes) but I suspect this is just symptomatic of a fledgling genre. A lot of the movies of this period contained similarly disparate elements - for example, the S&M scenes in movies like The Ecstasy Girls and 800 Fantasy Lane . Finally, the disc itself is very poor - one of the worst in my collection. The image is soft and the sound muffled. This is particularly regretable because the film has some very cinematic sequences, particularly the underwater shots of a naked Constance Money that open the movie. SDC |

Future Twilight Zone episodes also made use of this music. The music was even used in Kingdom of the Spiders (starring William Shatner). The "Back There" music is used ithroughout the movie, whenever something supernatural is going on. One of the instances in which the music is used is when the Devil is carrying Constance Money at the end of the movie and the opening credits are shown. I think that Mary! Mary! can be quite amusing at times and other times the movie has a weird supernatural atmosphere. Jamie Gardner www.demicomix.com/Carnal01.htm |
