Although Melanie has performed with some major labels, I always got the impression her low IAFD volume has something to do with being particular and perhaps shooting low budget clip sales. Looks like she works the schedule she wants to and enjoys who she works with. Fairly regular scene output on TabooHeat.com and is one of Cory Chase's most commonly used performers (along with Amiee Cambridge). Also, her IR and anal output has increased significantly from when she started out, for those curious (hasn't merged the two yet, though).
I guess it depends on what Melanie's goals are/were. Did she miss out on monetary gain? Perhaps, she has done 279 scenes according to IAFD. Her resume is not loaded up with a lot of lesbian and masturbation scenes. However, we know the studios can't pay a lot anymore. Given Melanie has been active since 2012, I guess you could say she could have done 500-1000 scenes if she were seeking major exposure.
I don't know how hot the strip club circuit is currently for porn actresses. In the past, some major names seemed to have made a lot of money doing appearances, selling merch, doing expensive lap dances and so on. You kind of have to hustle and promote though. Could she have say gone to Nevada and rake it with a bigger name? Sure, but it's not for everyone.
Melanie does some events like EXXXotica Miami so she's not completely quiet. However, I do believe she is from South Florida.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Cory (or specifically her site Taboo Heat) utilizes contracted talent so much as she just has a trusted core group of friends she uses and then brings in others here and there. She worked with Nikki Brooks for YEARS, plus she has also worked with Melanie Hicks and Amiee Cambridge for quite some time as well, both of who seem to be free to take other bookings as they see fit. Melanie just had a new scene drop for Naughty America today, as it were...

Melanie first started shooting in 2012, so I would imagine that at this point of her career, she can be as selective as she wants regarding what studio(s) to shoot with, scene partners, and scene content. The anount of content she puts out is likely in line with what she wants to do, so enjoy the ride.
Oh, and she does have a new scene on Taboo Heat that just dropped (IR, no anal).
I am frustrated with the waste of her potential, a beautiful woman with a killer body like her should have been with the greats now. Taboo scenes are so boring with their scripts, acting and directing
