i dont ever want to speak for anyone, but a majority of people in the business are there to make money. and not just that, but much more money than they ever could doing anything else. Think about it....most girls make at least 8000 a month (conservatively)....so:

you can not say to someone, just because you are 18, we are going to deny you the chance to make 8000 a month, you have to wait 3 years to do this. That is simply un-American. Its the same thing with professional basketball players.

imagine it yourself, you are a smoking hot 18yr old. you just

a. dropped out of high school
so do you want to work at a fast food place making 5.25 an hour or do porn

b. graduated high school and enrolled in college:
so do you want to pay 20000 in student loans, or make money doing porn?

whether the girl is either of those scenarios, they both stand to make a better future for themselves in porn.

Dont you think? By the way, this post totally ignores the fact that european companies would still shoot 18yr olds, and american girls would simply fake their id's to change their age.

Also, I dont want to offend any girls in the business, by commenting on their motives or getting in the industry. I am simply dealing in hypotheticals.

this question come out after we know that some stars (Allie Sin, Aimee Tyler and even Kristy Myst) regret their career and Allie is even claiming she wasn't aware enough to understand what she was doing.

We also considered that there are lots of new stars who work for few scenes and then disappear.

So we want to know what a new star must know before starting this career and what is the price to pay for this.

Is it better to raise the age for doing porn to 21?

When are we going to stop finding alternative ages and reasons to deny people what they have the right to do? Remember that manufacturing porn is still a legal act, as such who has the right to deny the opportunity to earn income to any non-minor? So now a man or woman can vote , serve and die in the military, marry , bear children or be held financially responsible for children, decide another's fate while serving on a jury , pay taxes , even hold certain political offices - but they cannot perform in adult entertainment?

It just makes no sense. I know the intention is for their own protection (and it is an honorable one), but this country's government has already overstepped its bounds and denied its citizens their basic liberties in the name of protection a few times to many.

I'd like to say 21, just because it would coincide with what some think of as "adulthood" (e.g., consuming alcohol in a legal setting like a bar), but many incoming talent can make meaningful personal decisions at 18, 19, 20, or 21. Nevertheless, if a hard and fast/set "rule" was being considered, I'd vote for age 20!

#3. Not all folks reflect their age (in years) when it comes to ALL decisions. To protect them from themselves, perhaps 20 years of age might save some from making decisions they might later wish they had considered more thoroughly???????

I think that 18 is far too young to make a decision about something which will haunt you for the rest of your life. Everything you do or plan to do in the future will be affected by your decision to enter porn, from changing jobs to getting married to having children.

Most age limits are in place to protect young people from themselves - is that unconstitutional? How many 18 years olds can honestly say that they think about the future in detail - I work with them and I can tell you not many.

It you are not a performer or in the business, then there is this thread that is a more general discussion.

If non industry people continue to post opinions here, I will shut it down as simply a duplicate thread.
