Even if I were not in 'Misty,' I must say this production stands the test of time, continuing to be funny, hot and enormously entertaining. I've described Radley's sensibilities as being the 'Cole Porter of Porn.' What many people are not aware of, is that Jamie was the conduit which led me to Radley/Henry. Gillis' own gal pal at the time was originally cast in my role, and could not for some reason, meet the obligation. Radley then got on his case to find someone equally appealing as a replacement. I had, at that time, only done a few loops (8mm) for Peter and Iris, a terrific New York couple who apparently thought I was hot shit and mentioned me to Jamie. The rest, as they say, is history. There are many more nuggets of REALLY inside stuff contained in this soon-to-be-released DVD which I believe will outsell many contemporary titles. The word 'classic' is often promiscuously tossed around but folks, this is the real deal! Beautiful people in elegant settings, driven by a witty, wicked script having balls-out sex!! | The Wanderer All-Star Member 192 Posts 6/00 | Posted - Jul 21 2000 : 5:33PM I bought a VHS tape of the film four or five years ago and it had been censored by VCA in line with their recent policy of deleting any scenes which they deem to be politically incorrect or morally dubious. The cuts they made were totally unnecessary and spoilt my enjoyment to such an extent that I haven't watched the tape since.The film was edited in typically clumsy fashion by VCA and as a result some of the dialogue left in no longer made any sense because it had been removed from it's original context. There are no legal reasons for the cuts made to Misty Beethoven it's just cowardice on VCA's part and they are destroying a classic porn movie in the process. To rub salt in the wound, the film was preceded by an announcement from the Free Speach Coalition which VCA pay lip service to. VCA's DVDs are consistently the best in technical quality but I won't buy censored releases as a matter of principle. I know the cuts are sometimes forced as in the case of Every Woman Has a Fantasy where Kristara Barrington was rumoured to be under-age. But what's the reason for cutting Max's death scene out of Cafe Flesh or the bondage scene from Every Woman has a Fantasy part 2? What's the story behind that? Would someone from VCA like to explain? Stewardess- 'Yes we are' Passenger hands the stewardess a cigar. The stewardess turns, lifts her dress* , inserts the cigar in her ass and walks away. *censored version jumps straight from stewardess lifting her dress to the following dialogue and doesn't show her doing anything with the cigar... Passenger's female companion asks 'Why did she do that?' Passenger- 'She takes the cigars I buy in Jamaica and smuggles them past the U.S. Customs.' Passenger's companion- 'Oh...But it's not illegal to import Jamaican cigars into the States.' Passenger- 'Shhh!' So VCA have succeeded in ruining one of the funniest moments in the movie because of their petty self-censorship. The whole dialogue sequence no longer makes any sense WHATSOEVER. This is censorship of the dumbest, most irritating kind and demonstrates VCA's contempt for the people who buy their tapes. Needless to say, there is no warning on the boxcover stating that the tape has been edited. If it's o.k. to show a woman inserting a large candle in her pussy in Debbie Does Dallas why should there be a problem showing a similar scene involving a cigar? Is there a law in the States I'm not aware of which prevents cigars from being inserted in private parts? Another example I can remember is the scene where Misty fucks Lawrence Lehman with a strap-on. There is an obvious cut just after she lubes his ass and the dildo penetration isn't shown. It's difficult to catalogue all the cuts without comparing my tape directly with the uncensored version, but if I can think of any more examples I'll post them here. It must be at least 15 years since I watched the full version. The running time of the censored tape is approximately 82 minutes compared with the 86 minutes stated on the boxcover(86 minutes is widely quoted as the full running time). To give VCA credit for something, at least the picture quality is good considering the age of the source material. I'll wait with interest to discover which version VCA release on DVD but their past record hardly fills me with confidence. To me 'restored' means restored to it's complete version, not with several seconds(or even minutes) missing here and there because someone didn't have the courage to put them back in. If memory serves me correctly the uncensored version includes penetration shots. Would you care to shed some light on the dildo story, or do we need to wait for the DVD? Just for the record, I bought my copy of Misty by mail-order from a store in Las Vegas(circa 1996) and it was a brand new original tape. Saki, it sounds like you purchased your tape just in time. Although it could've been sitting on Adam & Eve's shelves for years, which may explain why an uncensored copy was still in circulation. I think VCA's present state of paranoia can be traced back to the early '90s when Russell Hampshire was jailed. Since then they've systematically reviewed all of their back-catalog and removed any 'offending' images or words. VCA are trying to predict what a jury might find to be obscene and that's an impossible task. Hopefully they will surprise everyone and release the DVD fully intact. [Link] |

Laing "relieving" herself in the kitchen before her anal scene in "Barbara Broadcast?" It's been cut on VHS copies for a long time. Looks like we need to start collecting a list of these cuts, or at least establish a permanent thread where people can add to, or look up edited titles!
