Is this the right forum to post this?

Anyways what happened to all the pictures that used to come with the reviews? The pictures help out alot on choosing which porn to buy. Astroknight, Flash, and Saki used to always be reliable in giving good pictures with their reivews. But now Astro, and flash don't do it anymore, and Saki stopped posting reviews. I really haven't found anyone else that post pictures with their reviews. If they don't they are reviewing the ones i'm interested in like the three reviews I mentioned did.

Does anyone else agree with me with wanting more pictures?

due to upcoming legal changes we can no longer display hardcore pictures on our site. some reviewers have started using r-rated screenshots, but it isn't easy grabbing r-rated shots from porn movies.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the screenshots while they lasted. They were always a time consuming process. With the new regulations, getting shots that wouldn't violate any of the rules would make the screen shot process so time consuming that I discontinued using them.

I thought you could have hyperlinks to another website which hosts the graphic image..thus avoiding ADT hosting the images? I suppose though, not many reviewers have their own websites / enough space to host images.
Oh well, those were the good ol' days.

The regulations would apply to the reviewer's website as well though. So although hosting it on another site would keep ADT free from violations, the reviewer would still face legal problems.

Indeed, since it obviously makes sense that you can run a site dedicated to information about pornographic material, yet you can't display "explicit" pictures...

I still use them, but as Steph said, it's tough at times to get decent screens in a porn that are usable. I attempted to stop using them but got a lot of emails asking me to not stop the screens - I explinaed to all the problem and most were happy to have some than none.

Steph are those changes in fact set to go down? I thought they were supposed to be in full swing by like October/November?

I was just about to start using pics in my reviews when this whole situation came down, I'd taken screens for about 8 reviews, and then scrapped them. without the use of explicit pics, the pics become useless in showing the action, they are only really any good now to show a given star and what they look like in the movie, to combat that, I try to describe outfits and things like that, it's not the same but it's something.

I don't know about the much more established and talented reviewers like Flash and Astro and PL and others, but I found I can have time to do several more reviews without taking the screens, and that is a lot more people that I might be able to help point in the right direction on a film. It's maybe not too much consolation if the pics are a big deal, but it is a plus side to not having them.

I deleted all the pictures from my reviews in anticipation of the new laws. None of them would have been compliant.

I plan to have sex-free pictures in future reviews, when I eventually get around to reviewing again.

Just another point scored by that non-existent Christian Gestapo I guess.

The bigger problem is getting web space for free that allows the kind of traffic that would result from hosting images for reviews. I know that I don't want to pay for space and the free sites have limitations on hits and linking to other servers.

There are multiple ways of getting this done, but eventually like P-Man said, if you self host, you'll run out of space.

I think pics are a good way to peek interest. I personally contact studios and request "Glam" pics to add to my reviews. Some respond, some don't. I'd also add if you slam a company, you most likely won't be extended this courtesy. Persoanlly, I try not to post poor reviews. It the title lacks, I post without images,or just don't post a review.

Nonetheless, there are still other options availible.

I am not afraid to review a shitty movie. If I wasted my time watching it, I'd waste my time even more if I didn't write about it. Good thing, the shitty reviews have become less frequent as I pick and choose what I want to watch.

As for the original pics question, I have a bunch of stock photos I have taken myself that I could just use to give a frame of reference on what the girl looks like when my review is a simple, "Dude, she's hot". But that's a lot of work... and beggars can't be choosers. People take and they take and they take and then even ask for more. It sucks even more when people take my pics and upload them somewhere else.

I was going to delete my screenshots but decided to wait until the 30-day notice. I think the new regs are still pending, but haven't heard anything definite.

I've posted r-rated screenshots in my reviews for the past couple of months, as does the Pocketcomb_Pimp and picman and both of these guys have very similar tastes in porn as myself which makes their reviews as much a pleasure to read as they are to see.

I used to consider screenshots an easy shortcut. It's so much easier to provide a picture of a woman than it is to vividly and accurately describe her. Now I find it just saves me time and that's what most review readers want to see. I have no problem giving the people what they want especially if it's going to save me some headache.

MT, We've talked behind the scenes, so I know that was not a jab. It's not a matter of being afraid, it's a matter of time. Another reviewer shared his thoughts with me, and I will say he was of your mindset. I can tell if a title is poor, and at that point the fast forward and skimming starts. I have so many titles that it's time better spent if I move to the next title. People also know what I like, and if I don't review a title, in most cases people know it's because I didn't like it. They also know they can email me for the dirt I dare not post, or find out if I have the title.

Back to the thread though. Pictures motivate me. Sharring with you guys also motivates, and the pictures tend to jog my memory if I start my review the next day, or forget to note an act visible in the picture. R rated pics are the ultimate tease for a porn fan.

You mean people don't really read our reviews anymore? They just want to look at the pertty pictures? The words are the window dressing to the images and not the other way around?

Wow. I've been way off.

That's a bit of elitist sarcasm by the way.

I never have done screenshots with my reviews because I don't have the time or the technical means to do so. The screeners I occasionaly get from Sin City actually come with a cd of stills meant to be included in reviews and I was going to us those until the legal change. I completely understand the demand or maybe want for screenshots with reviews and from a reviewer's perspective, as Crucifixio pointed out, it can make it easier. Why struggle to describe how hot a girl looks when you can just refer the reader to the image adjacent to the paragraph? Maybe someday I will figure out a way to include R-rated screens in mine.

What?! So the thousands of readers are supposed to assume that every title you haven't reviewed you didn't like? 95% of the readers are not going to email you. Readers expect a review to be a critique.
So you write positive reviews so that companies will let you use images?! There's a big difference between slamming a company and writing a critical review.

A lot of companies send us screeners in order to receive honest critique. I highly doubt whether or not a company makes glam shots available has anything to do with the content of the review.

I thought about adding R-rated pics in the review. I even started doing a review with it. I was halfway through the review and had already spent more time than I ever had on a similar review. I figured that by the time I was done I'd be spending half again the time on a review doing it that way, as I was having to change my format around to better fit the R-rated pics into the review. So I could either do 2 reviews with R-rated pics or 3 reviews without. I thought my time was better spent doing it without, although I might still include them on some interactive features just to give people an idea of some of the menus and setup of the disc. Due to the tease sections on most interactive DVDs I can do that without spending too much time or redesigning my format.
Plus everybody else gets to waste their time watching it as well. I know there's a lot of people who enjoy my reviews and who I've helped, but I'd hate to start thinking that there are people out there waiting and watching for my reviews because they'll only buy stuff I enjoyed!
[sarcasm]Geeze, Steph! By now you should know that that's the best way to find a quality studio. I always use the "If you don't give me what I want I'm not going to put any effort into doing a decent review of your product" method when I start checking out a new studio.[/sarcasm]

Since I have had a couple emails on the personal side, let me make it clear. I review all titles regardless of quality from ADT. I could post links, but if you click my name in the review, you can see what the reviews say.

I am inspired by good titles, and could write pages about it. On titles that aren't so hot, I break down what's not hot, and move on. I'm a guy, and unlike women that want to talk about why another woman is a bitch, and break it down to the last compound, a guy can sum up another guy by calling him a "DICK".

That's no slight to women, just stating unless a title is a comedy of errors, not much need for me to tell you it's bad 44 times. Hopefully you get that the 1st time

I think I've found a way to maneuver around this whole R-Rated requirement fiasco. Just mark out the privates on photoshop!

Take a look:

https://www.adultdvdtalk.com/reviews/read_review.dlt/sku=10325/teen-dreams-9.htm

What do you think guys? Does it look too weird?

Steph, email me if this is still inappropriate, so I know for my future reviews.
I'm new at this but I'll try to do screenshots for all my reviews in the future-I know how helpful they are to consumers. Indeed, a picture is worth a thousand words; just wish my college professors agreed on that one.

Personally, I always look forward to picman and crucifxio reviews because of the pictures they include. Pocketcomb has stopped embedding images recently as far as I know. Anyone else that I've left out?

What are these actual laws that will prevent x rated pictures. What do they say?

Gemoiogist,

Basically it boils down to if you host x-rated pics on your servers, then you must have all the documentation, the same documentation that a studio would have to have for example. The model releases, verification of age, etc. That is a grundle of documentation. If the feds ever visit you, you'd better have it or it can be pretty big trouble.

That is a very simplified encapsulation of the gist of it.

I still include screenshots. R-rated ones. I actually thought about asking you all if the R-rated shots are still valuable to you.

I know they're still valuable to me when CJ or Pocketcomb Pimp does it, so I'm trying my best to find some shots that at least give you an idea of what the girls look like, or what the environment is like. Maybe not as useful as hardcore, but I think it's worth the time to do them.

As far as I know the changes to the record keeping rules that truly will restrict ADT from showing hardcore images are not in effect yet. However, ADT is trying to be proactive about compliance with them if they are ever enacted. It saves them stress now, and extra work in the future. I don't blame Steph and Drew for making this decision, and I'm not sure that trying to convince them to change the policy is going to be very fruitful.

As far as MASAMUNE's idea, we'll have to see what Steph says about it, but I know I won't be doing it. It's labor intensive enough doing vidcaps as it is, let alone having to tack "genital blurring" on to the list of steps. More power to ya, MASAMUNE.

Actually, this idea was floated when we first heard about the new 2257 regulations. Photoshopping a sock onto privates doesn't really disguise the fact that a sexual act is taking place. Your picture shows no penetration, so it might still be within bounds, but it's not always going to work. In one of my reviews I couldn't capture a single non-sexual shot, so I photoshopped the cock right out of a girl's mouth. It's not something I want to make a practice of. I really appreciate directors that shoot good tease.

I've only recently started to include thumbnails in reviews, and it sure can be tricky to capture R-rated images sometimes. Usually, as soon as the male performer comes into the picture, he already has his schlong out, so 1 time out of 2 I'm only able to show the girl. Which isn't fun because I always write my reviews with female audience in mind. I'm not sure about the status of nipples, can they be shown ? I'm lucky enough that I review couples' movie, but I can imagine how impossible it must be for gonzo reviewers. I still imbed non-explicit thumbnails, because it gives the reader a global idea of photography, background, set-up & of course how the girl looks.

Did the new new 2257 regulations go into effect? Last I recall hearing it was just a motion or something.

As far as I know they haven't gone into effect yet. But we still need to be prepared for them.

With respect to blocking out portions of an image with a photo editor to make a picture "R" rated, that's not going to work. The rules are pretty clear on this. If the original image depicted actual sex then records are required.

Another note on the recordkeeping, IIRC, it isn't just Adult DVD Talk who has to keep the records. They have to because they're hosting the images (or making them available through the site). The reviewer who includes the screenshots also has to keep records and be willing to open their "place of business" up to governmental inspection during "normal business hours". As much as I'd like to still have screencaps in my reviews because I know people like them, I'm just not willing to keep full documentation on every movie I review and let the government into my house to check it over whenever they would feel like doing so.

Well that sucks.... I have been editing my Screens to what I THOUGHT would comply...

Ok, so screw it, until they make it law I'll do regular screens. It will be a pain to edit my reviews, but if it went into effect today all I have to do is rename a folder and all the screens don't work anyway

Oh and as a side note to anyone who may know. Sites AdultDVDEmpire, would they have to keep records like that for their screens even though they have a password protected area for them?

And as for box covers, would this site's cover of Neo Pornographia be OK?
