I've been wondering about the "50 Most Read Reviews" function on ADT. There's the "most recent reviews" function - how recent are these reviews? Are they reviews that are less than 1 week old, 1 month old, or something else?
Then there's the "50 Most Read Reviews" of all time. Are these the 50 out of all the 7000+ reviews on the site?
How often are these two functions updated? It looks like once a day, or is it more often than that?
The "recentness" is not a function of the date the review was posted. It's based on when the review was read. To get on the recent list a review needs to be read many times within the past X days with the top spot being the most requested. X used to be seven days but I shortened that period not too long ago. However I don't recall what the new value is. (I think it's only 24 hours now.) I think the recent list is updated every two hours throughout the day.
Top 50 of all time are the most requested reviews since we started tracking these things a few years ago. This list is updated nightly.
These lists are automatically generated based on the number of times a review is read. However, we only record one read per user/IP address per 24 hour period. If someone feels the need to read a review over and over again we only record one read per 24 hour period per user. It also doesn't record requests made by search engine bots like Google or MSN.

I just realized that these numbers might be a little confusing. They are the actual read counts of individual reviews. They don't jive with the ordering of the top 50 of all time list. That's because we have more than one review of a given movie. The movie's rank on the list is the sum of it's individual review's counts.

Thanks for the answers. In your first post above, a lot of the titles have over 100,000 hits. So that means over several years (or however long that reviews of that title have been on ADT), that many people have read reviews of the title?
Your second post is all the reviews that I have written. You list a number of 8323 for 'Euro Girls Never Say No 3'. So that means that 8323 different people (or IP addresses) have read that review?
This certainly counters the claim that Chico Wang once made about me, that only 12 people have ever read my reviews.
Yes, this is the number of reads since the review was posted.Kinda. A "user" on our end is a combination of a few pieces of data (which includes an ip address). However, each user could have read the review 1 time each day since the review was posted in December and each read would count towards the 8323 total.
I think the proper response there would be something to the effect that you're glad that one of those twelve knew him so they could read it to him and increase the number of people who experienced the review to 13.

I believe Chico was using some reverse hyperbole to make his point. It didn't faze me. Still, I don't think I'll be reviewing any Chico titles for the forseeable future.
Still, it's good to see how many people have read some of the reviews. I'm surprised at the number of times those Rocco reviews have been read; quite a few ADT posters are always saying how Rocco is on a downward trend, but obviously there are people out there in cyberspace who are still interested in his movies.
The 'Euro Girls 3' sure has had a lot of interest as well. Then again, the two Private movies, 'Cleopatra' and 'I want to Fuck you in the Kitchen' - I couldn't stand either one, yet look at the interest in the reviews. I suppose this is a reflection of Private's size and ability to market their products.
Or it's just the unusual titles. The name Cleopatra oozes sex, and when I browsed your reviews and got to 'I want to Fuck you in the Kitchen' it was just "WTF?? Gotta read that one".

please don't read too much into numbers, other than the fact that tons of people read reviews. many things affect review counts. for a while we had excellent search engine listings for "rocco" for instance. same goes for "big clits". a reviews placement on our site, and on rame may also affect review counts. time of year, bargains, links from others sites - all affect counts.
I would have to give Private credit for picking good titles for their movies, if just reading the titles' names made you want to know more about each of them.
For what it's worth, Cleopatra was really hyped in the Adam and Eve catalogs, which get sent out all over the US. That has got to have an effect on the name recognition of the film.
Steph, I suppose things go in cycles. I wonder what would suddenly make people start doing searches on the name 'Rocco'? And then what would cause this kind of search to die down again? This is just my never-ending curiosity at work, wondering about this stuff.
It's not that people were searching for Rocco at one point in time and then stopped searching. It's that ADT has good search engine positioning for Rocco at one point in time but something changed and we no longer have the same position. Search engines update their ranking mechanisms all the time. Sometimes we come up good for certain terms other times we don't. We used to try to keep up with search engine specific optimizations but it became more of a crapshoot than a sure thing so it's much less of a focus these days.

I've always assumed that people are drawn towards certain titles either because they already know something about the film (director, performers or even production co.) or because the title is so lurid they can't pass it up. I think you would have to combine the subsequent price search to see if a favorable impression has been made by the review.
