Over the years the bot filtering mechanisms I'm using have changed as well. 20 years ago bots were a minor amount of traffic. These days it's around 50% of traffic. I gave up on attempting to filter out "reads" from bots. At some point a couple of years back I switched to only recording reads from actual users that are logged into their ADT accounts. So the counting method changed drastically. The more recent method indicates what actual ADT users are reading. Anonymous/non-logged-in visitors are not counted in the totals.
I also filter requests from the same IP address on a rolling 15 minute window. (If several requests come from the same IP address within 15 minutes only 1 is counted.)
A nightly routine sums the day's reads and adds them to the running historical totals. I don't keep track of requests per day per review. There are only two buckets: last 24 hours and forever.
