This sounds a little too much like the failed DIVX (no relation to the player Gamelink uses here) system for DVDs that mainstream tried to push on the public a few years ago (buy a DVD, but it expires after so many viewings, or so long a time).

But I guess sites are too worried about file trading and the like to allow you permanent access to a downloaded movie. The problem is it doesn't cost much more just to buy the movie on DVD.

A better idea might be to charge customers a membership fee ($29.95 per month or something reasonable) and give them access to a certain number of movies per month. Or sell them larger blocks of time to view any scenes from any movie they want, rather than making people pay per title.

But assuming you can afford it and have a decent connection, it is a cool way of seeing a movie you want to see right away.

I agree with you that when prices don’t differ much between a rental and a purchase, the purchase seems to be a better option. Check our prices at Action-DVD.com, $8.90 for Red Light District is as high as it gets, some movies are sold at $4.90.

The new technology also gives a nice opportunity to international customers to watch a movie without being worried about customs and high shipping costs.
