For instance, in the audition scene with the blond chick and the old guy, the age difference was about the same as in porn, but there was no cumshot, no anal, no yelling, they weren't even butt nekkid, yet that scene got me soooo hot! Woah.... and then the lesbian scene - again there was no hollering, no rug munching or dildo ramming..except by me, the home viewer. What's going on, how did they accomplish this? [Link] |

This is... heady stuff to be sure, and there's certainly elements of incest and sexual abuse involved, but the way it's shot and acted (and set up in an unconventional narrative context) is so... sexual in a sense that is far removed from anything porn seems capable of. Like you say, SB, it has to do with "erotic buildup" and, for me, a narrative backdrop. I'd say this is why I gravitate more (although not exclusively) to vignette and feature porn than I do straight all sex ala Anabolic and RLD. Hell even Twin Peaks the television series has it's amazing moments. And sometimes it was as simple as two people in the woods at night talking about anything BUT sex (aka Donna (Laura Flynn Boyle) and James (James Marshell)). As for Lost Highway--well let's just say that I've definitely had my sexual sessions with it as a primary backdrop in the past. But thankfully, it can be much more than just that as well. I can't think of any others that leap to mind, but Lynch has an amazing ability to capture eroticism in unconventional ways to say the least. I love him for that and many other reasons. Mike L. It's sexy just like Mulholland drive and Lost highway, but kinda perverted sexy, just look at the scene where Lola (Laura Dern) and Bobby Peru (Willem Dafoe) are alone! That's hot and dirty right there! Lynch also dove into the sexuality of sadism in his earlier movie Blue velvet, although that one got a bit tedious. [Link] |

I've never been able to find the work on the web, so I can't send a link, and he hasn't collected it in a book form. You have to track down the copy of Magazine that it appeared in to find it. More on that later, I guess, if people are interested. MLyons, I'd think you'd be interested in Wallace. Ever see his book Brief Interviews with Hideous Men? A bit too rough for me, but still engaging and experimental. Speaking of literay people writing about porn, anybody seen the Martin Amis report on a film shoot he was at?
