It's easy to do, many porns have multiple tracks for languages, and mainstream movies as well. For porn, why not two stereo tracks, one with music dubbed in, and one without? It is easy to do with DVD.

Even my girlfriend HATES when the music overpowers the performer's sounds. The sounds of sex are a definate turn on, but so many couples movies are ruined by the music. Probably one reason why gonzo has become so popular...

I would definately second that suggestion Mike. They already are having multiple audio tracks with the directors and stars talking, so why not for music and sex sounds.

I have several DVDs I have seen that would have been greatly improved by an alternate audio track, some that only had music, and others that the sex sounds were just too aggrevating that music would have helped. This would also cater to more tastes, as some prefer one over the other, and are dissappointed with the lack of music or the lack of sex sounds, myself usually the latter.

Just mic the sex action, use that as one, with no music at all, and then have the alternate with the music added in.

I dont know how realistic it is of happening anytime soon, but what would really be nice, is if a disc could use 2 blended audio tracks, and then give the customer the chance to adjust either layers volume withing the disc. IE you could turn down the music to hear the sex better, or turn up the music to change the scene sounds. This would give you the proverbial best of both worlds.

That is a good idea. I just don't know how much space it would take up on the disc.

It wouldn't be that much extra space, but for older titles it's probably not possible. It's unlikely that unmixed versions of their audio tracks exist.

There's another problem. As I've mentioned before,it's a lot easier to keep extranious visuals outside of frame than it is to keep extranious noises off a sychronous audio track. If a fire truck goes by during the pop shot, there's not much you can do except either live with it or cover it with music.

If you're good at what you do, you either pick music that enhances the scene, or created a "cinematic space" that justifies/excuses the enviornmental noise. This lies beyond the ablities of most pornographers; so you get crappy music or the sound of children playing in the school yard next door (go back and listen to M&J with good head phones.)

I believe that Ana/Diabolic has done this with many (if not all) of their recent DVD's.

That's one point I didn't think of TonyC, that they may be using the music to hide the extraneous sounds

I didn't see too much gonzo where the music bothered me too much, but it definately happens more with the feature smut. Because of it I don't bother much with feature smut myself anymore. I like the fresh young faces you typically see in gonzo, but I also like to see the barbie's with large fake tits getting impaled too

But as long as you don't have the unwanted extraneous sounds, technically it should be easy to do, and like Tony said it doesn't take up much space.

This sounds like a good idea, but given the choice, I wonder how many people would actually choose the music over natural sex sounds?

I've seen many features where environmental noise isn't a problem, and use music only when appropriate, or very much in the background.

I've also seen both features and gonzo where I've had to mute the chick's fake caterwauling which I find even more annoying.

Depends on how good the music is. Depends on how good the natural sex sounds are.

The opening scene (Judy Davis) of Always 18 #2 has nothing but a very loud music track for ages, and I adore it. And the Adamo features I've seen tend to have great music.

I'm a big PRIVATE fan, but the dubbing can be a real disappointment alot of the time. They dubb into so many languages, it would be great if they could leave one track with the original audio.

Bawdy,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure that there is an 'original audio' on some of the Private movies. Look at the casts in some of them, you would have maybe 6 or 7 different languages spoken. Ok, there may be several that can converse in one common language, but it would be very heavily accented at the same time.

I also recall reading somewhere from a Euro performer that shooting in Europe is so different because there is so much talking and noise going on during the shoot because they are not recording a sound track. If that's the case, then any of the language options would be dubbed.

That was my point dumbblonde, a lot of the feature movies have the music, which I hate. Keep the music dubbed track the default if they want, wouldn't it rock to be able to nix it?

And Bawdy/DenverDon - it's really too bad with Private movies being dubbed. I would love them, as they have so many hot women. But the dubbing kills it for me. Unless they change, I won't rent or buy any of their movies anymore.

Thanks for the welcome DenverDon, looks like a pretty awesome Forum! Didn't realise the sets could get so noisy.

In May 2003, Hot Video stated in an article about Antonio Adamo looking for a new distributor, that "Private ne veut plus que des films en anglais et en son direct." I guess they changed.

Being inspired by music as a director, I hear both sides of this arguement a lot. Music can, in fact, drive a mediocre sex scene to the level of a heated frenzy, when applied correctly. As mentioned, it's functionality also includes masking the unwanted sounds picked up on the set. However rich the idea may be, offering a user-adjustable music track to a film means relying on the DVD authorers to insert the separate audio track perfectly in sync with where it needs to be, in order for your choreographed edits to line up with the music. Considering that there is a slight "slur" in timecodes when transferring the music track to the DVD in and out points, you could end up with as much as a 20 frame difference in timing. This would throw your cuts off by more than a half a second from the beat of the music...2/3's of a second, to be percise...making for a totally annoying and unacceptable end product. Your authorer would have to be a painstaking editor as well, caring as much about your vision as you do, in order to make a user-adjustable music track that lines up with your edits.

All totally feasible and quite do-able...but it takes more time, money, and attention to detail...three factors that make most porn companies and post-production handlers shudder.

I'd like to know who coined the phrase "If you want anything done right, you gotta' do it yourself." That person must have worked in the earliest venues of adult entertainment.

Guy Capo,
if u experience a constant latency, u may cut the audiotrack or add some silence accordingly. Maybe u should think about switching your authoring/editing system to one that doesn't let you down like this.
Well, i think sometimes language dubbing maybe acceptable,
BUT to state this very clear, PRIVATE does dubbing of the sexsounds too and that's no way acceptable.

Producers have a multitude of options to get a nice "sexsoundtrack". Set managing (keep them quite, use low noise lights for indoor) and using unidirectional microphones are just some points to think about...

U may add that some actors sexsounds may sound fake, so what? Goodbye then

Anyway, i dont think standards will be raised as long as there's no serious loss of money involved due to competitors who care.

There's an interesting feature on the I Dream of Jenna DVD where you can select 3 different audio options where you can choose the normal mix of natural effects and music, or a mix with the effects higher than the music or vice versa.

Very novel and satisfies all audio tastes I would have thought.
