I recently had a not so satisfactory experience with adultdvdovernight.com, who I see periodically advertises on ADT, where I first heard of them. I decided to rent from them, since they have no shipping fees, and they are on the East coast where I live. Previously, I had rented from Xrentdvd.com, and had excellent service, though with them out in California, it was always 3-4 days to get DVD's.

The adultdvdovernight.com (ADON)website doesn't have nearly as many DVD's to rent or buy as other sites, and many of the ones they have are already out on rental. For instance, of the six Rocco titles they have, all have been continually unavailable for the last two weeks.

I did find a Jules Jordan film (WOAD2)($3) and a Everhard film (Cum in my Ass, not my mouth)($4) to rent, that were available. So for a total of $7 for a week's rental, I got what would have cost me $12 to rent from Xrentdvd.com.

However, when I got my order from ADON, they sent WOAD2, but instead of the Everhard title, they shipped some amateur DVD with a similar name. I immediately called the 800 phone number, but no one ever answered, even though I tried 3 times. I also sent them an email, with my order receipt attached.

It took them four days to respond to my email. They did credit my account for shipping the wrong DVD, but made some snide remark that with so many porn titles sounding alike, these things are expected . I don't think so; each DVD had a bar code on it, so I don't see why they should get mixed up like this.

Well, the upshot is "Caveat Emptor". I suppose with no shipping fees, one can't expect the best, but this was all a rather frustrating experience.

Wow, sorry to hear of your bad experiance. I have never rented or ordered from them but have thought about it several times. I recently signed up for Bush's 8 disc plan and we'll see how that goes.

Renee, sorry to hear you've had a problem with a store on our site. As far as the bar code thing - it isn't universal and it's expensive for companies to buy scanners / create an inventory system based on bar codes. Many adult retailers do not use them.

Yes, I can understand that bar code scanner might be expensive, but the company stuck a bar code on the disc, for some purpose, I presume. Interestingly, the bar code number did not match the item number for the DVD I wanted.

It wasn't that they made a mistake and sent the wrong DVD that bothered me so much. It was that no one ever answered their 800 number, which appears to be a ruse to placate customers into thinking that there is some timely customer service. They do make a big deal about this 800 number on the 'customer service' part of their website, about calling it if you have any problems.

It also seemed strange that they didn't offer to ship me the DVD I wanted as soon as possible (It was probably unavailable by then). They made the assumption that I would want my account credited, which forces me to continue to use the money on their website, trying to find a title that will be in stock when I want to rent it. If anyone has ever taken a look at their site, fully half of the titles are out on rent at any one time.

They also offered no explanation about why it took 4 days to respond to my email, though I sent them the original email about the problem as soon as I recieved the shipment in the mail.

I hope my next experience with them goes better; they still have $4 of my money.

Way back when, I questioned why e-tailers didn't just use the UPC numbers (the number represented by the bar code) as the item numbers in their systems. I was told that A) many companies didn't use bar codes, which would cause a problem and that B) many of the companies that actually do use a bar code, use exactly that. A bar code (singular, not plural). They put the same bar code on every disc they manufacture.

That kinda defeats the purpose, don't you think. I should be past being surprised when adult video companies do stupid things. But I'm not.

Plus some bar codes on adult discs are the same as ones on mainstream discs. For instance, the barcode for Madonna's Screen Test from Pixie's Emporium is the same as the barcode for Outland from Warner Brothers.
And as Bill said, some studios don't always use them. Several of my Arrow DVD's are missing bar codes.

Oh I hear you, Renee. It always bothers me when a store doesn't respond in a timely manner. If I had reason to believe it were a regular occurance at a store we would remove them from our site.

Neither did I since our barcode for Madonna is 031515637922. I'll have to check into this with our production guy. We have our own company ID. Looks like maybe something got screwed up somewhere.

I read what Renee wrote about "the company" as ADO.com had attatched the barcodes to the discs, as opposed to the manufacturer?

I could be wrong though.
