I just started firefox, it took longer then usual to start up and when it did it seems to have erased my bookmarks. And (I don't know what this is called) my frequently visited sites are gone, as in I used to be able to type the first couple of letters of a site I visit and have firefox would have a drop down menu.
It's not a huge deal, nothing irreplaceable is gone.
I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen and if anyone has any ideas about recovering bookmarks.
Thanks.

Firefox stores all that stuff (bookmarks, etc.0 under your 'profile' in Documents and Settings. I recall that it puts them in a folder (sub-directory) ApplicationData\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\blahblahblah\bookmark.html
In the newer versions of Firefox there is also a bookmark.bak (back-up) file that is written everytime you close Firefox.
If you have lost your profile though, the 'link' may be gone (forever), but you may still be able to manually retrieve the data using Explore or a similiar file mangement program.
Firefox has a tendency to do that, all of a sudden, without warning. It brings up the browser and it as if you just installed it and were using it for the first time.
There is a free Mozilla back-up program (freeware download) that does a good job of backing up your Mozilla files (Firefox and Thunderbird).
MozBack-Up
It won't help with your current problem but will help in the future. It completely re-builds your profile and puts you back to where you were when you did the back-up.
I've had to use it maybe four times in the past year, which is strange for a software package (Mozilla's Firefox & Thunderbird) that has such a good reputation.
I think it was a mistake to use Windoze's Document & Settings directory for their profile location.

Thank you.
All of my saved passwords/logins were intact so it wasn't like a totally fresh start.
I appreciate the help.

Do any of you use del.icio.us? If not, why not? I use the fuck out of it.

Can't say I've had this happen yet. If I had to guess, I'd say it probably has something to do with automatic updates.
