Times have changed. More recently, I’ve had to add one unpleasant category -- scenes in which the female performers seem not to be enjoying the understandably unenjoyable –- and one confusing category – scenes in which the female performers seem (distressingly) to be enjoying the seemingly unenjoyable. Often, these last are accompanied by static shots from a tripod with little or no zooming or panning, because the director and/or camera operator are just as uninterested as everyone else. The approach to the sex is what matters. So often now they make a conscious decision to do away with any real attempt at the erotic. As if it's become uncool. As if I'm still listening to hair bands like Poison while everyone else is in love with the grundge look of Nirvana. Hopefully, this stuff is cyclical. [Link] |
