There be some right smart computer folks on here , and no mistake : From The Cuddler to Wankus' Bane , and all the colours in between . Hopefully one of you can help find the simple fault which is eluding my tiny grey cell .

I've been trying to get VirtualVCR to work this afternoon with no luck . Followed the guides at Doom9 and VideoHelp , but they weren't any help , and the official forum is in a state of neglect . Thing is I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 (external) capture card and wonder if that sort of device doesn't fly with this software ? Anyone have experience of using this program ?

yeah I have used it before! Which one are you using? Capture to AVI? Give me some more info as to what problem you are having.

Thanks . Yeah I'm on version 2.6.9.6252 which should produce avi captures . The issue is dead simple , I can't get any picture or sound through it . Nothing . Running WinTV2000 at the same time and that works so there's no problem with any conectors between my VCR and the capture card , or between the card and the computer . I've failed to find where I can fill out my country code and video type , though apparently that only applies to the TV tuner on the capture card , and I'm only really interested in recording from VHS . This whole rigmarole is to try and record NTSC as outputted by the PAL VHS player in PAL60 . It's one hell of a game !

i honestly have no familiarity with the subject, but the forums at htpcnews.com are probably right there with doom9's for PVR-issues so you might take a look there. just looking at the product description on newegg makes me wonder if it can handle PAL at all though. good luck with everything.

Thanks , I'll give the HTPCnews forums a look . Someone must know what I'm doing wrong .

El , that was one of the guides I've already looked over , but I'm gonna give it another try soon . Probably see if I can download the program itself from somewhere else , or if there's an older or newer version which might work . I've already updated my drivers , so they're probably not the problem .

I'm not familiar with VirtualVCR, but have you tried VirtualDub in capture mode ? That's what I use for all my .avi captures.

Also, but it may be depending on your sytem, I've found that I first have to switch the TV signal to NTSC as well as on my PCTV software to get a straight image recording, PAL 60 is only good for direct playback.
