I buy quite a few dvds from the retailers on here recently (120 +)and so far have been lucky in that i have never had one seized by customs or stolen in the post.

My luck ran out this week though when i ordered 2 dvds from Moviesbymail.

As usual i ordered using global priority letter. However, when i collected my mail i noticed that this one particular letter was very flimsy indeed.

It was obvious there was nothing inside and there were no signs of it being opened (the tear to open tag was still intact and the flap was still glued down).
There was no sticker from customs only a 'Mount Pleasant-Primary customs cleared' stamp.

I e mailed MBM and asked if they wanted me to send it back unopened as it appeared to be empty. I also asked if they could do a stock check to make sure they had actually placed them in the envelope.

Their reply was simply 'the dvds were sent out....go ahead and open it, i'm sure there will be something inside'!
Well, needless to say it was completely empty...no disc, no covers, no customs letter.

When i had opened it i was even careful to test the glue to see if it had been opened and stuck down again.
There was a perfect uniform strip where the glue had been, there was no way this had been re-glued by hand.

The glue was still strong enough to tear some of the paper away when i peeled back the flap. But when i tried to reseal it, it didn't hold very well at all.
I have my doubts whether it had been opened at all looking at this evidence.

If it had been opened by a postal worker and resealed then they did a very professional job! maybe it had not been sealed down properly in the first place, i don't know?

I have now asked MBM to secure the flap of the envelope with cellotape when they send the replacement. At least it may be more obvious if it has been tampered with.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Customs Officers are THEIVES! It's theft and it is not at all uncommon. I hate those fuckers!

Never happened to me thank god but it could be that customs stole the things but it could also be that the person who did the packing at Moviesbymail made a mistake like he thought he already packed the movies. Mistakes happen all the time.

So what happens next for you?

I had to reorder the 2 dvds and pay twice.

I guess it could only have been stolen by 3 groups of people.

1. Person who works at MBM
2. Person who works for Post Office (UK or US)
3. Custom Official

That is so unfair having to pay again for them.

You offered to send them the unopened envelope as proof that it was empty.

If it was out and out theft from a Postie or Customs why send the empty envelope out? Why not just steal the whole thing? If anybody asks questions it would be just a case of "Ah well must have been lost in the post".

Because it was global priority letter which means it needs to be 'signed for'.

The last thing a postie would want is for post office to start looking into a missing package that they have stolen.

Another member of my family signed for this letter.. so now i have the letter and it's 'signed for' i haven't got a leg to stand on!
