Flash  Golden Age Classic  11018 Posts 5/01 |  Posted - Nov 27 2010 : 5:57PMLast night I was skimming through the newest TLA catalog and came across a new title called The Boob Tube Show which is apparently a porno take off of MST3K. Bear in mind, from what I can see, the people from MST3K, Cinematic Titanic, RiffTrax and The Film Crew have nothing to do with this release, so I don't know how good it is. The premise is that a porn theater owner, who is a talking penis, along with his projectionist and theater janitor riff on classic porn films. The Boob Tube Show appears to be the first entry and the films included are Johnny Wadd and Little Orphan Sammy. The few sites showing the DVD list the time as 100 minutes, which means I suspect one or both of the films have been cut as Little Orphan Sammy runs for 80 minutes (per IAFD) and 72 minutes (per Den's site). I didn't pull either of my DVDs to confirm run time. Looks like it could be fun. [Link] |

| john lyons Senior Member Co-founder of Vinegar Syndrome 1188 Posts 1/08 | Posted - Dec 3 2010 : 5:01PM I watched the trailer and have to admit that some of their jokes were quite clever and funny but the whole MST3K thing has never sat well with me, whether it's used on mainstream or X rated films. I'm not saying that a good many of the real MST3K episodes don't make fun of truly awful and often extremely dull movies, but in the case of X rated films (especially from the 70s), as GGG mentioned, people seem to be immediately dismissive of so-called "awful 70's porn movies," simply because they're from the 70s and have narratives. I doubt we'll see these people parodying Debbie Does Dallas or some other plotless crap, but come on...LITTLE ORPHAN SAMMY? As irritating as that movie is, the adolescent humor is completely intentional. It's not like the film isn't self aware. And that's where 70s XXX often differs from the films used on real MST3K episodes: when 70s XXX is funny, it's almost always supposed to be funny. I'm so sick of people watching these films and acting as if everyone in the past was completely oblivious to humor and irony. Or even worse, watching an older dramatic film and simply refusing to take it seriously and making fun of it simply so they can make fun of it. But that's how people are: dismiss what you don't understand. And last, these people better be sure they're not infringing on copyrights (as they have with SAMMY). Lucky for them, the rights-holder for SAMMY is completely oblivious. [Link] |
