Roxio seems to have the same problems. What's the best program for under $60. that's user friendly? I'm not looking for a program to convert files to use on mobile devices I'm just trying to edit movies and music for my home use?  [Link] |

I agree with the negative sentiment about Nero and Roxio.
I use InterVideo WinDVD2 (which is long OOP). Corel bought them out in 2006 and they are on release 11 now. I got it free with a DVD burner drive many, many years ago. It does exactly what you have in mind.
If I didn't have that little program I would try (I think there are trial periods) the software from PolderbitS.
I purchased their music editor years ago and it is great and they provide free upgrades. If the DVD editor is as good you can't miss.

Avoid Nero 11 or 12 at all costs.
I am very happy now using CyberLink Media Suite 10 Ultra.
Newegg is currently selling this for $99.95 with free shipping.
Back in December, Newegg ran a special for $59.95 -- and that's for an entire suite -- boxed version! -- (which will do everything you want, and well).
I'm expecting that prices and good deals will become available from time-to-time, but the CyberLink Media Suite 10 Ultra is well worth the $99.95 with free shipping you can currently buy it for.

I was a former Nero 6 user on XP and loved it.
Nero 11 and 12 appear to be absolute disasters!
I've been using CyberLink Media Suite 10 Ultra for a good six months now -- on Windows 7 Home Premium with 8 GB of RAM -- and absolutely love it.
Don't believe any of the bitching reviews you may come across.
The programs work, and work well.
The program that will be the most important for your "I'm just trying to edit movies and music for my home use" needs (out of the 11 programs that come with the suite) is CyberLink PowerDirector 10.
FYI, I'm building two computers and I liked the CyberLink Media Suite 10 Ultra so well that I bought two more of the suites, when they were on sale for $59.95, to install on these, as well.
Also, CyberLink PowerDirector 11 has now been released (as a stand-alone product), but CyberLink PowerDirector 10 is really good (i.e. CyberLink PowerDirector 10 being the one bundled in the media suite).[Link] |

BTW, an OUTSTANDING free audio editor and recorder is Audacity.
I've been using older version 1.2.6 on XP SP3.
It is incredible, stable and useful.
Of course, you will still need burning software if you want to burn disks.
The current version is 2.0.3
Thought I'd mention this in case you decide to go with a stand-alone video editing program, but would still need a quality audio editing program.[Link] |

Roxio has always sucked ass and just good at making coasters.
At least Nero was once good (stopped using it at 6.6 and heard it's gone to shit since).

 The "Pro" version is the same media suite as the "CyberLink Media Suite 10 Ultra" I've spoken highly about, but without the Blu-ray editing, Blu-ray playback and 3-D support that the "Ultra" version has.
