CummingLinguist  All-Star Member 5908 Posts 11/11 | Posted - Dec 17 2013 : 1:38PM ABSTRACT  INTRODUCTION There has been an increased debate in recent years (e.g ADT, 2013) concerning the ability of African American pornographic models and performers (hereafter "Black pornstars") to appeal to viewers of other racial and ethnic groups (hereafter "crossover appeal"). Much of the debate has focused on the historical impact of slavery and racial prejudice in the US, in particular its impact on the psychological makeup of typical American viewers of pornography. Zaface (2013) suggested that black pornstars may be looked upon in a derogatory fashion (i.e. they might be stereotyped as "Hos") and therefore undervalued within the market for pornography. "Teanna West" (aka "Teanna Trump", hereafter "Teanna") seemed an interesting case study to investigate the hypothesis, as she is very fit, with particularly attractive breasts and buttocks. (See Figure One) Furthermore, her facial features and light skin showed clear evidence of her mixed African and European ancestry. (It should be noted that almost all African Americans have mixed ancestry, but in Teanna's case, it is especially apparent.) We set out to test her crossover appeal by investigating the emotional and physiological responses of a European American (hereafter ""white") male consumer of pornographic images and videos (hereafter "porn fan"). The case study suggests that Teanna's physical attractiveness and ability to engage in sexual performances that excite the viewer give her a high level of crossover appeal. FIGURE ONE (1a) Teanna displaying her buttocks  (1b) Teanna displaying her breasts  MATERIALS AND METHODS We used the Google search engine, and terms such as "Teanna West Trailer" and "Teanna West Fucked Hard" "Teanna Trump fucked hard" etc. The search resulted a set of images and a short film clip that all seemed to be taken in the same blue-walled room with a single massage table. Thus it seemed likely that all of the images were produced during a single session of pornographic production. In addition there was a link to a model agency website called "Motley Models". This site required that the viewer to "Log In" to see more pornographic images. We concluded that the site's owners meant to restrict access to producers (as opposed to consumers) of pornographic images. The research team consisted of a single male consumer of pornography, and we therefore did not attempt to access the images on the Motley Models website. Among the images were those in the Figure Two, which our subject found especially appealing. (Unfortunately, other even more appealing images cannot be shown as per the requirements of the publisher of this content.) Figure 2 (2a) Teanna engaging in a sensual backrub  (2b) Teanna displaying her buttocks while spreading her legs  In addition to the photographic images, we found a video clip that lasted for five minutes and 45 seconds, of a trailer for a scene she did for the website called fuckedhardeighteen.com. Our subject viewed the clip to determine Teanna's potential appeal to a typical white male porn fan. In our dual role of researcher and research subject, we were able to closely monitor both the physiological and emotional responses of the subject (who has stated a preference for white pornstars over performers of other racial and ethnic backgrounds, including specifically black pornstars). RESULTS This case study suggests that Teanna has huge potential appeal in the crossover market. Our subject had an almost instant and very powerful physiological response to the images. These included an engorged phallus and an inability to look at anything other than the images on the screen. While in this engorged state, he was observed to stimulate his phallus, which brought him sexual pleasure, but which did not result in a complete release of sexual tension. Had the clip been longer in duration, or had he been in the mood for a quick release, he has no doubt that he could have achieved complete sexual release while looking at videos of Teanna engaged in sexual acts. In fact, he found her so appealing, that he felt he could happily watch a large number of such videos, and even felt he was developing a fixation on her (hereafter "porn crush"). It is worth noting that while our subject has often achieved complete sexual release while looking at videos of a number of black pornstars, he has no memory of ever developing a porn crush on a black porn star. DISCUSSION Although this is a single case study, the intensity of the subject's response to Teanna suggests that she may appeal to a large number of porn fans, including African Americans, Asian Americans, Latinos, Armenians, Monguls, Uyghurs, Miaos, Inuits, and other market segments. We note that many pornographic performers engage in a small number of on-camera performances. Given that Teanna seems to have only one video available at this point, we hope that she will continue to perform sexual acts on camera. The case study looked at just one male porn fan's reaction to one short video clip, so more research is needed to reach a firm and completely satisfying conclusion. REFERENCES ADT. (2013). Of course, the people who might accept such an offer may not be typical porn viewers, but that is a problem in any survey-based study. The solution might be to offer free porn plus a fairly hefty payment. It would also be very important to maintain confidentiality. I could see doing this by hiring an international team of raters (who would look at the footage from the cameras). As part of the intake process, you could ask people where they have traveled or expect to travel in the next year. Then, in addition to the normal training for the raters on the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of their subjects, you would make sure that subjects and raters are unlikely to be in the same country for at least a year after the study. Of course, industry doesn't operate under the same ethical standards as the academy. Cam sites could easily do the same type of study, using footage that is already available to them. [Link] |

On a wider scale, I wonder if the whole NSA wiretapping thing has made people more cautious of their online porn habits....A recent article from the Snowden leaks said that the NSA had proposed using dissidents/activists' monitored porn logs as a way to discredit them. In a terrible world, online viewing habits would be available to universities, potential employers, etc. much like social networking data is already available to them.... In some ways, somebody's browser history is the holy grail of who they are as a person...... I wonder if there has been much "market research" done in porn, beyond academic studies...Especially with newer trends such as webcam modeling... I find it interesting that on sites such as [mod edit: please don't provide the names of pirate sites, thank you] etc., some genres are by far more popular than others.. It seems that through vigorous research, and tapping into the collective unconscious of the porn consumer, producers could maximize their return on films, or create a "super-whore" who displays the most commonly desired traits for a broad spectrum of viewers.. Then again, it seems that porn industry trends are mostly set by producers...For example, I prefer sloppy deep-throat scenes, but would have never even known I liked it unless I'd seen it on film...
